Nicely written but does not really add up as a plan for a transfer ban.
Buying average players and letting better players be sold is not a good plan, if you did not do the former you would not have PSR to worry about. We have 7 keepers and no one that would play in any top 3 side in the EPL, NO striker still, average CBs Nothing that screams world class or elite as the young folk like to say, these owners have an addiction to the buy and speculation.
All this going into season 3 of ownership and still no front of shirt sponsorship, the project as such needs a reset and some top football people in the right seats.
Left back looks a massive weakness IMO, not to mention we're actively selling players like Chalobah and Gallagher and replacing them with inferior players.
I read your article with interest The Score having also read various other similar suggestions in the past few days in various media. Surprisingly the first comment you received doesn’t get the picture and immediately attack you for so-called defence of the ownership. Having read everything that has been written from serious parties including yourself on the subject I think you could be spot on. The extent of the fan and fine will be the only question marks. If you’re right in your summations, then the path that has been taken is fully understandable.
It also just some extent explains the wall of silence as they obviously are not going to want to announce this to the world as it would affect their plans in terms of purchasing players for the reasons you explained. To make this work a known striker is a must as obviously we cannot go another two years without one.
If it comes to be that this is the reason for the activity over the last few weeks and probably since they took over the club it will be interesting to see what reaction from the wider fan base is. Thanks for the analysis and your considered view.
Just can’t stop finding reasons to defend the madness under this ownership! If they were preparing for a transfer ban there were better ways to prepare for it. Firstly to prepare for it you don’t have to overspend for average players and even some of the kids. There was no need to buy players like Mudryk, Disasi, Sanchez, Drewsbury and a couple of others. The money you spent on dross could have been spent on one or two ceiling raisers like Olise and Osimhen etc. you don’t spend 60-70m on three average - poor keepers. You keep the Cobham players to give you depth without any amortisation & don’t overspend on average players.
Exactly this. The only player we've signed this summer who improves the team is Neto. The rest are nowhere near as good as the players they are replacing.
You don't need to sell Gallagher for PSR if you don't waste £50m on Kellyman and Dewsbury Hall. Both Gallagher and Chukwumueka are far superior to the players signed.
Mitch whilst I agree with you it’s a game of musical transfer fee’s because the fee is amortised down the road so you see to cover whats coming due this year whilst buying to move on over the next 5 years or so the cost of the replacement.
However the system works best if the replacements are an upgrade or needed which they haven’t been in many cases.
Let's be honest, we're all praying for a transfer ban! It would be a blessing in disguise. You never know, the club may even rekindle its love for our academy again
We can only hope that’s the thinking, The Score!
