Thanks for another insightful article Luke, you have clearly provided us with a better understanding of the quality of Omari. Obviously the jury will be out for one or two years, but he certainly seems to have a quality that I haven’t seen from some of his equivalents in the Cobham teams.
Out of interest does anybody have any clarity on how the £19 million is broken down. For example is a proportion of it based upon performance related payments?
Kellyman's lack of selection for the various England youth team speaks volumes IMO.
We regularly have 4 or 5 players in each year group from U15s up to U18s. Kellyman was never selected for any of the England youth teams at that age.
I'm sorry, you can try to spin it as much as you want but this is a scandalous waste of money and sends a horrific message to other academy players, most of whom are significantly more talented than him but will be behind him in the pecking order solely due to the transfer fee.
That's fair enough, but when we have an Academy that produces England youth internationals for fun, the brutal reality is that someone like Kellyman would not be considered anything like one of our biggest talents. The signing makes no sense on a footballing level, let alone a financial one, and I think it also sends a dreadful message to the likes of Nguhoma etc.
Chukwumueka was incredibly high regarded by comparison, and while that fee was high it was on the back of a solid body of work and an outstanding reputation.
I see that, but I would cynically say that we produce a lot of youth internationals because of our stature as much as there ability, if our youth squad played for Plymouth academy not as many would get selected at youth level, that's my view.
I am not dissing Cobham and I am not content with this signing, but I do think some people support Cobham more than they support Chelsea at times. At the end of the day whether we like it or not we are signing Omari Kellyman, he is going to be a Chelsea player and the minute he signs that contract he (along with any other player) gets my full support regardless of fee, background and career to date.
When I think back a few years to when we had a squad of international players ,when they were taking shots it seemed if it crossed the line between the goal and the corner flag from a shot and was under the stadium roof level it was considered on target.
The lad seems to know where the goal is and I agree could be a great player.
I suspect the base value and the add ons for this transfer will make more sense if ever they are revealed.
Excellent analysis of Omari Kellyman, Luke!!

I would guess so mate, unlikely we give them 19 mil, would guess at 10/12 plus performance related add ins but that’s purely speculation
I hope he likes Strasbourg 🤭

I’m not spinning anything Mitch.
I’m giving fact and opinion as always, like you are above with your opinion, I note the money and overpayment and mention that within the article.
