Another great article.... for these young players to progress we need stability.... yes everyone will make mistakes along the way ( that called life) and ultimately success comes from failure and learning the lessons of those failures... this squad is not set up for instant success ( unlike before) so it’s time for patience not change.
Hi nice look at the mentality that afflicts the club & to a greater degree many of its supporters and when you present the article that way you start to understand the impatience of the win junkies who don’t quite get the fact that if Ferguson, Klop & Pep had all been sacked in the 1st year they became mangers their respective clubs may not have gone on to have the success that followed.
I would also say that appointing as you put it a dynasty manager has to have merits and seems to be in my mind the way to go.
I want to see a team fighting for the badge, the club, supporters and the manager as when that happens the sum of the total will be greater than the sum of the individual.
The Chelsea of the Abramovitch years is no more although the spectre of his behind the scenes deals still hangs over the club in the shape of ffp investigations.
Therefore in my book Poche gets the full 2 years and then possibly an extension but if the club want to help him be a success they need to revamp the recruiting setup as that is clearly failing and listen to what and who the manager wants as the. Failure is down to the manager.
Absolutely brilliant article! Cannot tell you how refreshing it is to be presented with an informative, and rational summary of where we are - and how we arrived here. Your pieces on this site, are truly some of the best writing on CFC, that I continually enjoy. đŸ‘Œ
Excellent article, highlighting a ridiculous scenario that we continually live with at Chelsea. As you highlight other clubs, get it right by being patient with Manager and allowing them to make mistakes but grow from them. Success does not always mean they retain their jobs, look at Ancelotti, and for those that are old enough, Eddie McCreadie. What is clear is the most successful clubs over the last 20 to 25 years are those that have been patient with their managers and are ones where they have stayed in situ for a significant amount of time
Your last sentence is without merit. Chelsea over the last 20 years has won 19 trophies and are the most successful club in the EPL. City will over take us this year, but that’s because they arguably have one of the best coaches ever & they have as deep pockets as Chelsea have. Our hire/fire has worked wonders with the egos we have had, but only when we have had a no nonsense coach. Poch, Potter, & Sarri are all soft.
I'm still leaning Poch Out at the end of the season but you make good points mate, although I will say Pep and Klopp were afforded the time to build and implement their philosophies as their quality as world-class managers was well-known before coming to England, whereas Poch while still a good coach isn't on the same level. I'm the same as you in wanting a dynastic manager but I think that opportunity for the time being has died with Tuchel who had the credentials to be that guy for us in my opinion. Nice to see Hoddle getting some credit as he deserves much more than people realise.
yep we need a Hoddle or Jose under this regime. Someone who fixes / raises the standards required at the club ...including what's expected of the first team, ownership and SDs.
My fear is that this ownership does not want anyone elite as they want to poke their noses in everything and call it 'collaboration'. So hopefully we stumble on the right guy. Hope is all we have.
Great article. Thanks for the info!!!
