Why selling Fikayo Tomori is not the end of the world
Although I'll be disappointed and rate Tomori, it makes sense for him to go
Fikayo Tomori is very happy at AC Milan and he wants to stay at the club, they are also keen on triggering their £26 million option to buy this summer, but they’re counting on Champions League qualification to be able to get this deal done.
Milan have asked Chelsea for a discounted fee on Tomori, but Chelsea are not entertaining that.
But Milan look likely to get Champions League football as it stands, and they are likely to then sign Tomori.
I’ve seen a lot of disappointment and discontent about this, and whilst I do share the disappointment if Tomori goes, it is certainly not the end of the world and it makes sense entirely for us.
Just look at our own centre back situation. Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger whilst both having short contracts left, they are both expected to stay at the club this summer with new deals, Christensen more likely than Rudiger as it stands, but Rudiger is more than happy under Tuchel and is still expected to sign.
Kurt Zouma is the only centre back with some doubts over his future right now, and he could ask to leave, but even that is not definite yet.
Then you have Thiago Silva, who is likely to sign an extension at Chelsea for another season, and also Cesar Azpilicueta who has also been operating as a centre back.
That’s without even mentioning Marc Guehi and Ethan Ampadu.
Add in another centre back, which Chelsea are certainly in the market for this summer which you can read the latest on here, then where does Tomori fit in?
Don’t get me wrong, he is a good defender, but I don’t think he is any better than anything we currently have, and he also does have a mistake or two in him.
Take the £26 million and put that towards the new striker pursuit, which you can actually read the very latest on here.
It is a decent fee for a centre back who I do rate highly, but he’s still yet to fully convince me, and he also doesn’t want to be at Chelsea anymore, so goodbye and good luck!
