Sources: Chelsea want BOTH Joao Pedro & Mohammed Kudus, Sources: Antonio Silva impresses Blues officials, Sources: Chelsea reject chance to go for Jhon Duran, Jamie Gittens for £55m!? Much more...
The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Monday 30th June 2025!
Morning all,
Chelsea beat Benfica 4-1 on Saturday night in what was a hugely dramatic game. It was suspended for two hours due to severe weather, Benfica had a player sent off and scored an injury time penalty to send it to extra time. And Chelsea then said enough is enough and scored three quick goals to see them off before it went through to the dreaded penalty shootout. Chelsea through to the next round but unsurprisingly, Enzo Maresca was fuming with the situation. Maybe have these competitions in areas that aren’t regularly prone to adverse weather conditions, no!? Too much sense there? Money talks…
The transfer news is finally starting to heat up a bit again as we approach the latter stages of the Club World Cup, and it looks like Jamie Gittens to Chelsea will soon be confirmed and The Blues will pay around £55m to land him. I’m fine with that by the way, he’s a good player, a decent signing, great. But you can’t tell me that £55m isn’t overpaying for him and is the fee Dortmund wanted all along. So if we’re caving in to them for a raw player, why have we been so stubborn with Mike Maignan? £25m is not overpaying for him, and nobody will convince me otherwise. Maybe we do end up getting him cheaper and the tactics of waiting it out does end up working, but for me this is a situation you just get done and you don’t worry about the odd £10m. Words on that here.
Three sourced transfer news articles now via our sources.
The first one is the HUGE situation going on right now with Joao Pedro of Brighton, and Mohammed Kudus of West Ham. Chelsea have been trying to sign BOTH players! They’re offering players to West Ham for Kudus and something could be done there. Full details in here. Since this was written a deal was agreed for Pedro!
Chelsea still want a striker and see Pedro as one as well as other attacking roles. But they’ve also turned down a chance to make a move to sign Jhon Duran this summer. His agent offered him to Chelsea, and I have the full details on that one here.
The final sourced article is on a new centre back. Antonio Silva played against Chelsea for Benfica on Saturday night and did well. Chelsea were once again watching him closely and already had him on our shortlist. A move is now being considered, with all the details here.
Full news roundups from Sunday can be found in the Blues News Report here. Covering all your latest transfer news and general Chelsea news from across the last 24 hours in the same place.
