Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents,
This could be one of the most ‘marmite’ signings we have ever made, by that I mean he will either be loved or hated by fans. Even researching writing this profile I have no idea what my thoughts are and whether this is incredibly smart or same old awful Goalkeeper profiling.
But the fee overall is low enough for it to be fairly risk free from a financial standpoint.
Filip Jorgensen
Player profile;
Age: 22
Nationality: Swedish
Position: Goalkeeper
Height: 6ft 3in
Summary;
I wont lie and say I have watched him lots, but I have spent lots of time researching him, reading numerous reports, threads and articles on him from various people.
Last season he ranked in the top 10% of Goalkeepers in Europe’s top 5 leagues for shots on targets faced with a massive 5.6 per90, he ranked in the top 6% for saves for a huge 3.9 per90 obviously good figures on his part in an otherwise leak defence.
Villareal’s poor defence shines again with the next stat where they are in the top 1% across Europe’s top 5 leagues for Crosses faced, a point I come on to a little later, but this adds some context.
Style of play;
Jorgensen is a very reliable shot stopper. Although he conceded 65 goals and kept just six clean sheets last season, Villarreal would've conceded so many more had Jorgensen not been in goal, he topped the league for saves with 143.
Along with his ability between the sticks, Jorgensen is world class with the ball at his feet, the main reason he has been chosen to be our new GK.
His passing range is exquisite and a massive tool for Villarreal throughout the 2023/24 campaign, he completed over 1,000 passes and averaging 45 successful passes per 90 minutes.
There are obviously weaknesses to his game and something that worries me a lot.
The lack of clean sheets is obviously a bit of a worry, although that could be down to Villarreal's back four being relatively poor.
Another worry is his lack of command in his penalty area. He is just 22 years old and fairly inexperienced (shock), he does tend to struggle from set pieces and balls being lumped into the box. The fact that he stopped just 5.2% of crosses that came into his box at Villarreal is a clear sign of this.
A couple of clips below that are worth watching;
Verdict;
Its the first time I have done one of these and really struggled to answer my own question, my verdict? To be honest I dont know. I will do a small Pros and Cons list.
Pros;
High Potential
Distribution and Passing range excellent
Shot Stopping good
A lot of his weaknesses can be coached and come with experience
Cons;
Not commanding
Relatively inexperienced
He divides opinion
Won’t bring our defenders instant reassurance of whos behind them
Thanks for reading.

This article starts with Luke admitting he’s not watched a lot of this guy. It’s quite likely that the club and/or Maresca via Leicester have. We want a keeper to play in the sweeper/keeper role and balancing cost/pros/cons we’ve gone for him.
Most likely to compete with Sanchez if we think he’s the best ballplayer of the keepers we already have.
We’ll need a third keeper and sell one other.
This isn’t complicated. It isn’t irrational. It seems boringly straightforward football business to me.
Why be so desperate to sign him if he has so many liabilities just because he comes so cheap? Do we or don’t we have a scouting staff?
