While I admire your nuanced look at this, I find it very unnessacary to do stuff like this? What does it help? It only makes more negative focus on Mudryk. Why pinpoint it even further how bad or average he was? He played for a national side. Nobody else normally cares of players do with their country, and Mudryk is getting cooked left and right on ever SoMe, so why put more focus on him by doing this? I personally dont get the need, with all due respect
Hi Nicholas, thanks for the comment which is always appreciated.
From your message above I don’t believe you have read the report fully, it was a mostly positive report and trying to reflect on the things he did well and the patience we need to provide him with.
I only made one or two ‘negative’ comments which were actually more constructive than anything.
Hope you see where I am coming from and read the report in that way.
Maybe I am just fed up with the hate and abuse Mudryk gets on social media that it blinded my view on your take on the whole situation and for that im Sorry.
I read the article and that is why I also called you nuanced as I think you highlighed both the good and the bad - and you are not one of them I see abuse him so nothing but respect. I just think Mudryk needs to catch a break and get “left” alone and get the same chances as others have gotten before him - who actually played even worse. I just think Mudryk gets a lot of unfair criticism and it made me trigger.
We also sometimes forget that players are humanbeings and Mudryk has not decided his own pricetag. I think he will be insane once he gets a decent chance and confidence.
alot of us are missing the point on Mudryk & think that just by starting him he will improve. The bigger question is ..is he good enough yet to start? the talent is there but he is extremely raw when it comes to basic stuff like finding separation, when to pause / accelerate, overall decision making etc. Mudryk only had 44 appearances for Shaktar in a league which is nowhere near as strong as some of the other european leagues let alone PL. Mudryk has to undergo alot of development / coaching which is best done on the training ground. Had we not paid 60m (overpaid) for him a loan for him would have been great for his development. We cant do that now. Ideally we need a senior winger who can play on the left wing & Mudryk keep coming off the bench while working on his game in the training ground. Having someone senior who can give us 2 good seasons on the wing will take off the pressure from Mudryk & he can continue to improve at his own pace while getting rotation minutes in PL & starting cup games +training.
Just using an example... we could have got someone like Zaha (not his fan) who was available on a free & he could have been a starting winger who has put decent numbers in the PL & keep giving Mudryk th minutes of the bench.
Now that we have got him for that price we just can give up on him. With hardwork from the coaching team and himself he will come good.
For me it isn't about improving him as a player by starting him, that comes in training. The starts would be to improve his confidence and make him feel more of a part of the club/team, which he hasn't felt since he arrived.
He has had A LOT of off the field problems which haven't helped towards his form and confidence.
The problem is as Chelsea fans we have become accustom to saying lets just go and buy X, Y & Z for a season or two seasons rather than develop and integrate players properly, this is why teams like Brentford & Brighton have so much success with players, perhaps on a smaller scale.
How do you think that would make any 21/22 year old player feel if we just drop a load of money on them, make them feel important but then say "for the next two years you'll be limited to sub appearances" whilst playing somebody as a stop gap, stuff like that is what ruins young players careers and mentalities.
I think this situation is over-dramatised, people saying we should sell him, loan him or give up on him.
He has made 20 appearances since joining at an average of below 40 mins per appearance, he has barely played, consistently.
The biggest issue is our fans as a wider community (not the subs) have a real urge and requirement to have a scapegoat when things go wrong. It used to be Mount, Jorginho, Havertz etc. now it is turning into Mudryk, Chilwell and Silva. Certain fans even tried to add Sterling into that this season until he started playing well then it is all just forgotten.
If we just backed our team, understood that there is a process ongoing and for the next however long we will not be this machine that manages to win trophies continuously through adversity, everyone would be a lot more calm about the situation.
Unfortunately Luke being a mid table team is now looking more realistic to lots of people and that is what they do not understand. Id love a talk November 1st to see how you see it all then
Frankly, although I do agree some of the comments in this article I am astounded at the amount of leeway Chelsea fans in general give to Mudryk - illustrated by the number of people saying he needs a run of half a dozen games or so. Just what exactly has he done to warrant a start let alone 6 starts in the team? He has to show something in his substitute role - so far a complete zilch.
Bottom line - we bought a dud for a ridiculous sum of money. We could have bought a top GK for the sum we dropped rather than the 3rd string Brighton keeper - with change to spare.
I agree with you 100% Jonathan. I just don't understand the optimism our fanbase seem to have for Mudryk. It all feels very Torres'esque.
Maybe it's because we spent such a high fee for him, that we almost need him to come good to avoid looking like we got done by Shaktar. Probably the fact we stole him from under Arsenals noses comes into it too. And then there is the player himself - very hardworking, dedicated, seems like a very decent person. For all those reasons and more, I want him to come good as much as any fan.
But putting all that wishful thinking aside - apart from that very brief cameo on his debut against Liverpool - he has shown almost nothing that indicates he will turn into a world class attacker/winger. I don't like to be negative towards our players, but unfortunately I just don't see him having a future at Chelsea and I wouldn't be surprised if he was sold next summer (if we found a buyer for him).
He is coming on for 10/15 mins apiece against a low block where we haven't created anything for 75mins. What exactly is he supposed to do?
I am far from his biggest fan but in realism he hasn't had a decent chance since he joined us, barely started a game, came into an awful team with no structure or tactics from a fairly poor league.
He can warrant a start from training and attitude as well as performances and once he is fully fit I am sure he will do so.
In terms of the fee he cost 60m, the add-ons are only achievable if we win a PL, CL and/or he wins a ballon d'or.......
Well I hope you are right Luke! Unfortunately, the vast majority of Premier League sides play a low block. Chelsea are one of the few teams who don't. Players like Mudryk and Werner thrive in counter-attack. Put Mudryk in a low block team and he might (I emphasise 'might') do something - but Chelsea is not that team!
We're not that team......yet, we just need to relax and be patient, Poch will put his stamp on this team and players like Mudryk will end up working and fitting the system.
This is why I did the comparison at the end of the article, to breathe optimism.
People (rightfully) take poor performances or below-par games for face value, but when you add a little context to it and understand how turbulent Mudryk and many other players start to life at the club have been it isn't as bad as it looks.
I watched the game and was baffled by how much focus was put on Mudryk tbh. He’s barely played and people were expecting him to put on a masterclass up against Kyle Walker of all people and playing for a weaker side. Hopefully he gets some consistent minutes on the LW soon
Agreed I think people were/are slightly delusional with Mudryk. Keep expecting him to put in these statement performances. He’s got talent but he’s so raw the kind of player you sign for £20m and send on a good loan as opposed to £68m in the starting line up

Sorry Luke.
Dont apologise my friend!
I completely agree with you!
❤️

Exactly that mate, hes had a difficult start to life at Chelsea and personally in England.
He will come good
Thank you for this Luke. Completely echo everything you've said here.

Agreed AT. However, I can say in complete honesty I expected absolutely nothing from him - and that is exactly what I got!

Yes - agreed!
