Solid column !!! Good for you, that you take a somewhat unpopular opinion, at present, and put it out there without hesitation, or conditionally approving of the ownership right now.
Keep up the great work,The Score !
And most importantly, Up The Chels !!!๐๐๐
Yes. Yes. and Yes. But can they win headers? Can they fight for 2nd balls? Can they press? WILL they press?
Spending billions upon billions on players are clearly one sign of ambition of the ownership. Another sign would be signing an elite DOF to replace/oversee PW LS and JS. Because spending big on young players (no matter how generational they might be) and stockpiling these insanely talented players is not equal to building a WINNING squad.
Well done Score on another well written article. Anyone who believes investors of this calibre are in the habit of running the asset they purchase into the ground are delusionalโฆ.. success on the pitch is the only way they can increase the assets valueโฆ so they have embarked on buying players (think shares) that they believe will be good investments ( bring success to the club adding value to the shares) . We all agree we need a 9โฆ.. but who is the best optionโฆ. We all have an opinionโฆ.. but you only get to make that choice if you have invested YOUR money. I see progress and am glad we didnโt get taken over by investors like the Glazers
Itโs the part of the season where I take a step back whilst we see which way results are going to pan out for us.
There is an old saying that if you put a chimpanzee in front of a typewriter eventually he would tap out the complete works of Shakespeare. Personally I think it would require an endless supply of chimpanzees and typewriters.
There is no doubt that there is madness in the recruitment regime itโs just that many of us are not sure of the method!
Itโs concerning this hire and fire revolving door and not good practice in my view.
No anti American bias although if Donald Trump had bought the club I think that would have been impossible to say.
So Mr Score another good perspective article but donโt expect everyone to agree with every point.
Another sound perspective from The Score. As you can see from the early comments or everyone hundred percent agrees with you but I do for the record (that would be in doubt).
To start with the owners business background is such that they have not ever had any intention of doing anything that in their eyes was going to increase the value of the club which is a principle of their business approach.
As you highlight as well as the squad we have for the season there are a bunch of high-quality under 20s that are on the way into the club or currently being loaned to others and will grow and add to the depth we have. If that means one or two or the current crop need to be sold after only being with us a couple of years that is because better opportunities have come across our vision in the interim and they want to seek to improve year on year.
Mistakes have been made and theyโve learnt from them. They will still probably make mistakes but these guys are here for the right reasons and if we stay patient, we could have a phenomenal team to support in the years ahead
I respect the Score for his commitment to promoting Clearlakeโs plan, even though every single thing they do undermines his point more and more ๐
But respectโฆ thereโs a level of consistency there!
The fact this article talks about โsquad planningโ and then talks about x2 of Noni, Neto, Mudryk, Sancho, Palmer, Felix and Nkunku having to leave next summer to make way for Paez and Estevao in the same breath is amusingโฆ
How on earth is that good squad planning? Most of those guys were signed less than 2 years agoโฆ and weโre talking about shipping them out to make way for more new players?!?!
I think the owners made a few mistakes in the beginning on players and the coach. After all new to the premier league. But they are fast learners. I have never doubted their ambition. There is clearly an anti American anti big business element and a wish for the early Abramovitch days. But they are never coming back. And who wants Russian money anyway? I think itโs a great time to be a Chelsea supporter. The team is likely to keep getting better, transfer ban or no.
"Whatโs scary is that two of them would probably have to leave next summer with Paez and Estevao arriving." It's not scary it's just piss poor squad building
I agree. I love the Score's positivity, but I think that's a very rose-tinted take.
Were they not obliged to invest a certain amount of money, rather than invest wisely?
e.g. perhaps Penders will be excellent, but what about the other dozen GKs?
Went after a young (big) ST, but then some weird stuff happened with his contract, and we ended up with yet another (small) AM/wing? And now Sancho?
Speaking of Sancho, he and another young player went to Dortmund last season, and one of them was excellent for Dortmund, but we sold him, and are now somewhat hamstrung for serviceable LBs.
DDF? Angelo? Washington? Mudryk? Petrovic? Slonina? They're not all bad players, but coherent plan?
I am actually calm about what is happening on the field, and happy to let Maresca go about his business - he is not guilty in all this - but the off-field stuff is somewhat depressing, and is fair fodder for the many critics of the club.
