Marc Guiu: Scouting Report
Is Guiu to make an impact now or is he another raw prospect that needs a loan?
Chelsea have always been in for a striker this summer, but nobody was talking about Marc Guiu from Barcelona and their world famous academy La Masia. Guiu was a real opportunistic signing as he had yet to sign any of Barcelona’s new contract proposals and still was available for the €6 million release clause in his youth contract.
Marc Guiu Scouting Report
Name: Marc Guiu
Position: CF
Age: 18
Nationality: Spanish
Physical Attributes:
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 180 lbs
Build: Tall and strong, with a powerful physique
Speed: Elite acceleration and ability to hit top speed for his size
Stamina: High endurance, capable of maintaining a high level of performance throughout the match
Technical Skills:
Dribbling: Good control and ability get out of 1v1’s against defenders in the box, he has a good baseline skill, not great. Think more Morata rather than Nicolas Jackson who grew up as a winger. He dribbles to create shots for himself and others.
First Touch: Reliable and consistent, allowing for smooth ball control under pressure. In his senior appearances at Barcelona he was a little nervous
Shooting: Powerful and accurate, capable of scoring from various positions inside the box. He is definitely a finisher and a poacher and around the net, from all reports and the limited matches I have watched. What also I notice is his agility and ability to finish in unusual body positions.
Passing: Adequate vision and accuracy, able to link up play effectively, but link up play is not his strongest, something that will need to improve.
Heading: Excellent, poses a significant aerial threat due to his height, timing, and jumping ability.
Tactical Awareness:
Positioning: Intelligent movement off the ball, always finds space in the box
Decision Making: Generally makes smart choices, though can improve in certain situations, at his age that should continue to improve.
Defensive Contribution: Willing to press and track back, contributing to the team's defensive efforts. Consistently is working up top for interceptions and pressing. A complete workhorse.
Strengths:
Physical Presence: Uses his size and strength to shield the ball and hold off defenders
Aerial Ability: Really good in the air, both in attacking and defensive situations
Finishing: Clinical inside the box, with a variety of finishes in his arsenal
Work Rate: High level of effort and commitment, consistently presses and works hard for the team
Weaknesses:
Pace: While reasonably fast, can improve on his quickness over short distances
Passing Range: Can work on improving his long-range passing and vision
Consistency: Needs to maintain high performance levels in all matches, especially against tougher opponents
Summary:
Marc Guiu is a forward with a unique blend of qualities that make him a player of great potential. His strong physical presence and excellent finishing ability set him apart. His height and heading skills make him a significant aerial threat, while his intelligent positioning allows him to find and exploit spaces in the opposition's defense. He is a hard worker, consistently pressing and contributing defensively. To reach his full potential, Marc should focus on improving his hold-up play, passing range, and consistency in performance.
Future Plans:
At this point, Marc has two promising options, depending on how he showcases himself in preseason. Either he shows that he is ready to be a backup striker for PL matches and start in the Europa Conference League, or does he need a loan to find more consistent game time in order to gain the most impactful development? I lean towards the first one at this point, which could be a significant step in his career.
His physical attributes will provide him with enough baseline ability against a lower level of competition that he should be all right. If he performs, it should provide him with enough minutes to progress. He also offers a different profile from Chelsea's current one. Guiu is an old-school center forward and poacher because of his ability to pop up in the right spaces in the box.
The only caveat is that Chelsea could bring in an additional striker during this window. It seems that they have been interested in one after sniffing around the Aleksander Isak deal. Still, with the Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall signing, I wonder if Chelsea would be interested in playing Christopher Nkunku more in that central striker role.
Regardless of that theory, I personally do believe Chelsea will bring in another striker this window, which would then mean Guiu should go on loan. I believe that a Championship loan would be great for him. If he could go to a top side that has a lot of possession and emulates the style of Leicester City, that would be great.
A move abroad would be fine with me, too, but I think his main priority is getting lots of game time because there is serious talent there.

Fantastic write up, Dylan!
I'm intrigued - if Giui was going to Dortmund this summer, he'd be playing loads, he'd get plenty of minutes in big games, and his develop would soar. But at Chelsea next season......? 🤷♂️
Reminds me of Giroud a bit. Similar profile with the link up play, heading, poaching, not speedy, etc.
