Luke a well timed and appropriate article under the circumstances of us considering the purchase of another left back.

I have to be honest and say that I am not being the greatest supporter of MC and have been unimpressed with him for the majority of his period at Chelsea. However, I can agree as you suggest that he has gradually improved, particularly in the last third of last season and he has been first class and the two games he played in the Euros.

I can with you that for the foreseeable future he could be the solution especially in the new structure the team are likely to play. Given time he may save us a lot of money or at least until we find a left back version of Gusto.

Interestingly both The Times and The Telegraph have produced excellent articles about him in the past week and there is also some interesting background about one of his children that might not be known to everybody that made have affected his form in the first season. I like you are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being, but the jury is still out.

Jury is still out massively and I am still far from convinced but I am never afraid to give flowers especially when I have been so critical of a player and pretty much written off their career at the club.

Cucurella colwill fofana James back 4. Potential to switch inverted fullback is enticing

He's crap and always will be. All that's happened is that his shortcomings have been hidden by the performances of his team mates. Still can't defend 1 on 1. Still positional hopeless, passing still bang average, and still provides nothing to support the attack. Other than that he's been brilliant

Sorry but in my opinion that’s completely inaccurate

I'm 100% with you. People are fooled by the fact he runs around like crazy.

Not fooled by anything it is statistically correct that we have seen a marked improvement upon his return from surgery.

The issue is some people are fooled by the past and are too caught up to look at the present and take back criticism to give plaudits. Players can turn around bad form and players can improve, but people have to be open minded enough to to comprehend that is a concrete possibility.

He is far from the best Left Back in the world, BUT he suits our new system/style down to an absolute tee and can save us a fortune (temporarily) whilst we focus on more pressing positions.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but within an opinion you have to accept or acknowledge stats/facts.

the positional sense added to the over-aggression when he pressures. The number of times he goes in hard on a player who is already facing backward or with nowhere to go, and then gives them an easy free-kick, is ludicrous. I get that people love the "let them know you're there" mentality, but it's such a negative for me. (a couple of seasons ago, Conor would do the same thing a lot, but seems to have reduced the frequency of it)

That proves that’s something he can work on and remove from his game then?

Can say that about a lot of different players over the last couple of years, he has either restored some of his dropped value or will continue to improve and help the team

That's fair.

Just a shame we paid 60mill and we're still living with it!

Sorry, I just don't buy this. Running around like a lunatic (and being caught out of position because of it) does not a player make.

He's dreadful tactically, technically he's all over the shop (look at his defensive footwork, he's *always* flat footed and square on), and he offers nothing going forward.

If this apparent renaissance means that a club is silly enough to take him off our hands then we should thank the Lord.

Amongst this "run of form" we saw him culpable for the Bournemouth goal at home, cause panic at the end of the Forest game when he booted the ball away under no pressure, resulting in more waves of attack coming at us etc.

He's just really not very good at all.

Jesus Christ he’s useless, too rash and that’s not changing. Cannot defend

Entitled to your opinion, but anyone can see that he has been much better and consistent since his return from Surgery in March

I guess we all as supporters need to be a touch more forgiving yes it’s true that I nicknamed Cucerella.. Cinderella never quite getting to the ball and I must say some of the comments about his early season performances are spot on.

However and in this case Cucerella improved dramatically late season and if that Improvement is carried forward we should be glad as it solves an issue as to whether Chilwell is good enough to be number 1 going forward.

lets not get fooled by his international performances. Its not the same as playing in the PL. Best case scenario is that his performances drive up interest. Sell for a decent fee and run! One of the worst LB at the club in the last 20 years... for 55m Great British Pounds!

Respectfully disagree Umair, nobody is being fooled. Just using facts and stats to state that he deserves some flowers as since his return from surgery there has been a huge improvement in him.

I have been one of his biggest critics but can accept that he has improved and that is why I am giving him credit.

He is far from out of the fire I. My mind but has showed good early signs he could turn his Chelsea career around.
