I would still keep Gallagher. Maybe not to play every game but I cannot think of a better player to have on the bench and to rotate. Where would we find another player with the passion, energy and who consistently remains uninjured even after playing so many hours. We all keep stating the club bought based off stats but not taking into account character. Well he has that in abundance. There are other players we could sell who might not be pure profit but together would allow us to purchase effectively.

Agree its harsh, but we cant have our cake and eat it, we can't keep demanding signings etc without complying with FFP and yes the SDs could have done deals and multiple deals a lot differently to avoid this solution but right now we can't change that.

Selling the likes of Maatsen, Gallagher & Broja this summer id 100m pure profit which sets us massively in a plus for FFP.

Personally I don't see the point in keeping Wesley Fofana, he's constantly injured and is one of our highest paid players. If someone was willing to pay a decent fee for him we should take it I think.

Disasi looks a decent enough CB, are we just gonna drop him when Fofana returns from injury for a few games til he gets injured again? Seems redundant to me.

Jordan to the best of my knowledge Wesley Fofana has only been injured the once….. just for a very long time and recurring.

Broken Fibula in 21' at the back end of Leicester, recurring knee injury off and on again dating back to his St Etienne days and a cruciate ligament tear in 23'

It definitely does feel like one long injury though lol

I think something else I forgot to add to consider is, will he be the same player after the cruciate ligament tear, and how much of his development has stagnated over 200+ days so far on the sidelines.

Fofana is levels and levels above Disasi when fit, Fofana was unlucky either the current injury and his leg break always counts against him which was hardly his fault.

He has one more chance with longer term injuries in my view.

In terms of ability there is no question over him in my view.

Obviously this is all my opinion

Don't get me wrong, I agree from what I've seen he is the better CB so to speak. For me though, when I look at our history we've always had solid partnerships at the back. Like a foundation. We had JT & Carvalho, Cahill, time beside Alex, Gallas, David Luiz & even Ivanovic at CB at times. Those partnerships were built playing next to each other for many games, developing understandings and intricacies with one another, currently we have a bit of a CB merry-go-round.

Fofana to me is too inconsistently fit for this, although I do hope when he is finally back again, that he remain fit.

It'll be interesting to see although I wouldn't be too disappointed to see a pairing of Disasi & Badiashile develop over time or Colwill & Badiashile, whichever shakes out the most productive.

There is also the question to be raised of, if Fofana comes back fit and gets injured again, his value likely drops even further and proves even harder to sell. Is it worth the risk with his track record? Something to ponder.

The real interesting one for me is the back up keeper who is 31 if I remember correctly and I don’t recall seeing him play makes we wonder what people think they know

He will still be 3rd choice, cheap wages, homegrown. My follow up article will include a question around goalkeepers
