I think the biggest thing that the owners need to do and, to some extent, the fans need to do is give whoever the next manager is some amount of time and room to actually try and build something. The run under Abramovich from 2004-2017 was really only sustainable because the dressing room was effectively capable of managing itself and when it wasn't a star player (Hazard) was capable of turning sure losses into draws and sure draws into wins. That papered over a lot of cracks that I think we started to see in Tuchel's first full season and continue to see now.
Part of what's made Liverpool and City (to a certain extent) successful is that on top of Klopp and Guardiola being exceptional managers, the board and the fans did not turn on them at the first sign of trouble. Let's not forget that when Klopp took over from Rodgers, Liverpool weren't the machine that we see today. In fact, even that first full season, they didn't really hit their stride until the second half of the season after they waited on the center back Klopp really wanted (Van Dijk) and waited until the end of season to address their goalkeeping issue (getting rid of Karius and bringing in Alisson).
The one thing that no Chelsea manager has ever had since Abramovich took over is time. And right now, time is something that is desperately needed. Hiring/firing managers because they don't bring home trophies every season doesn't work when you don't have a core group of players that can function without a manager. The biggest key is to make the right managerial appointment in the summer and give the guy a full season without distraction, without the pressure of the sack to try and build something. Otherwise, the club will remain stuck where we are.
The manager needs to deserve time tho, he always mentions Pep and Klopp but none of them where ever 11th and saying we are doing well for being there.
If we were showing signs on the pitch the manager had tried to build a relationship and we were sat in 6th/7th then there wouldn't be people calling for his head. Also he need to stop using excuses or deflecting or insulting our intelligence in the media.
I'm not saying that Pochettino is the right manager at all. I firmly believe his time is up and we need to move on.
What I'm saying is that you take the rest of the season to do your due diligence, make the correct appointment in the summer, and whoever it is that you bring in, you have to give them time to build something. It's all well and good to go chasing trophies, sacking manager after manager in search of success when there's a core group of players that can motivate themselves and anyone brought in without a manager's influence. But this isn't a group of players capable of doing that, so you need to make sure the next manager isn't looking over his shoulder if he has run of bad fixtures.
Yeah absolutely i agree with you, as i said in my article chose the manager as soon as possible and then get planning on next season but have a collaboration with the manager on the signings.
The board are only interested in making a profit Feliciano and Egbhali have said in interviews it does not matter if we win or loose as long we make profit. They only hire yes men that's why Christopher Vivell didnt last long. Wait until the season ticket prices are announced for next season supporters are in for a shock. They just want to make money and dont care about the supporters we are just customers now.
I dont really agree with this notion because you look at brighton its estimated they will make like 80 million this year in profit by selling there best assets but winning the CL you make much more money!
Well put, i have been saying similar about the lack of relationship with the Club and the Fans the lack of commuocation is deafening from CFC they need to address or get a spokesperson who can, the fans are the club, it feels they are sticking their heads in the sand, this is going to Boil over and they need to treat the fans with the respect they deserve, i was for Poch and a long term project of development as i have loved the success but i wanted consistency and pre season i saw green shoots and had hope especially after the Liverpool game, but i cant defend this anymore
Yeah for sure and i think it need to be set by the manager that we always clap the fans that starts a relationship. Any manager that has shown passion and appreciation for the fans has always been back to the hills and there name has been sung even after being sacked, Conte Jose and Tuchel for example all people who had no association with the club before joining.
I am one of the people who have been screaming for a project to back for way before the take over but i need to see progress and that doesn't have to mean in results early on or even first season but playing well on the pitch and see a style and pattern of play on the pitch.
I was never a fan of them taking over as there knowledge of football is very limited but it has been worse than I could of ever imagined but still CTID .
I don't necessarily disagree with the gist of this article however there are a couple of things to state in the interest of being fair.
From 2004 - 2010 we were undoubtedly the best team in the PL. We then became one of the top 2 / 3 between 2010 and 2017. From 2017 onwards we have been clinging on to the top 4.
For context we finished 10th in 2016, which should not be forgotten. Between 2004 and 2015 we finished outside of the top 3 just ONCE. From 2016 - 2022 we finished outside of the top 3 FOUR times. So that's 1 out of 11 compared to 4 out of 6.
We were clearly regressing, in large part due to the academy being viewed as a cash cow, some horrific signings on monumental wages (that the new owners had to sort out) and a gradual slip down the league table.
Away from the specific issue of Poch's efforts, I think this shows that we don't really appreciate how rare that 2004-2012 squad was. Perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime blend of talent, grit and managerial nous. The slide from there was slow, but essentially inexorable, slowed only for brief times by rare talents like Hazard, Kante, Tuchel, injury-free Reece James.
Seems like it was hard to get to the top, harder to stay there. But as a group of fans we're still living with that idea of trophy-laden success as the norm, despite not being an EPL competitor for some years now.
Not saying I enjoy it, but what is sport without some jeopardy.
Thanks Vivek! I think they listen to more than most of us think but on Poch i think they are doing everything they can to get to the summer so they can say it was always planned to review the manager and then get rid of him.
I really flip flop between blaming the owners and the SD i think the owners set the wrong policies with the only u25 signings but then the SD also executed very very poorly! For example signing Marc Guehi would of been much better than Disasi, or someone like Olise or Leao would of been better than Mudryk or Noni. Also why did we need to buy Caicedo Lavia and Ugokchukwo this summer!
The injury crisis is something that winds me up so much! How can a club of this stature have so many injuries and so many reinjuries straight after like Nkunku for example. He obviously wasn't ready to return and his rehabilitation wasn't correct.

thanks mate!

A great read Danny.
I agree with everything.
Great shout on, Jose & JT in right now!
Someone should send this to the so called Owners!
Don’t worry they will see it :)
Maybe you can add another paragraph about moving to Earls Court into a brand new shiny stadium as well!..
It's the only way we move forward off the pitch.
Hard to disagree with much of this.
Thanks mate!
Great work, Danny 👏
thanks bud!
Brilliant read and as a fan since 1969 agree with everything you say, never felt so disconnected to the club ,give us OUR club back !
Yeah it is crazy, i was so excited when they took over and they haven't lived up to expectations!

I agree with you that from a league perspective we have been regressing for years and that has been a complaint of mine for ages. However not 11th...
