A really good read thanks and it's hard to argue with given how the season finished on such a positive note. One season is usually not enough to judge wether the coach/manager is the right one particularly if they are inexperienced. It has at times this season been a really difficult watch and he did manage to alienate himself from a lot of the fans with some of his comments. We actually at times looked like a real team who were prepared to fight towards the end of the season and that bodes well for what is to come.
A top read, this, which I’ll file away and re-read through the summer!!
I agree totally that the boss deserves our full support, especially if he can get the boys to replicate the second half in Wroczlaw most weeks. A big ask, maybe, it not impossible and it might lead us on to bigger and better things.
The team could be so much more with the right manager tbh and I remain to be convinced re Maresca but he has earned himself a respite.
I don’t believe we should be starting with the wrong team personally and then change it at half time as what happens when we go in at half time 3-0 down?
It’s doubtful that Chelsea supporters will be happy long time with 1-0 results regardless of how well we do if 75% of the possession is across the back line.
I believe there should also be some praise for the SD and owners that saw Maresca as the right guy for the job when nobody else did, I believe we're in for a great next season. COYB!
Fantastic analysis of the season of our team and coach! The growth process is clearly explained and what is especially beautiful in the article is the interaction between the team and the coach. Both have made each other better! All reasons to continue with Maresca, he has doubly earned that opportunity 👌.
I'm not Maresca's biggest fan, but he's achieved a top 4 finish and won the conference league so deservedly gets the chance to see if he can push the team on further next season. I do however think that the jury on him being a top manager is very much still out. Observations from last night, Both of Cole's assists came from an advanced wide right position where the world and it's uncle knows that he is at his most potent, but Maresca wants him to play anywhere but there mostly, why? Get Cole the ball in threatening areas and he's a world beater as he showed for a season and a half. Gusto is a good attacking right back but he can't play in midfield it took us to lose a goal to learn that lesson again. From watching week after week does anyone expect much from Pedro Neto or Noni when they are in possession? The Nico Jackson experiment needs to be abandoned. We've had two seasons of evidence , minus injuries and suspensions for not smart actions, to show us that he's not good enough to be Chelsea's number 9. Probably that's not his fault either as I don't think he was signed to be that. Great goal by Sancho last night but I don't think that he has done enough over this season to earn a permanent move.So the squad still needs a lot of strengthening before we can genuinely compete for major trophies again I think.
A great and thoroughly enjoyable read one I completely concur with. Everyone continues to forget but not only the team young and learning but so is the manager/coach and he as you’ve said has definitely made mistakes but learn from them. Making mistakes and learning from them is a great skill and as long as you don’t keep repeating them, you will continue to improve in life and your job/role. I cannot say that I was a supporter from the outset of his appointment but I believe in supporting anyone that we have as our manager/coach and I’ve got behind him. I could not believe the negativity at times with everybody wanting to throw the baby out the bathwater. Your stats for the first half of the season versus the second says it all. Yes, we were poor at the turn of the year, but it was not as bad as people think and it’s more important to look at the scenario of the 38 games but any other group of games during the season. Every club possibly except Liverpool will probably look at some stage of their season when they should’ve done better than they did and most importantly, we came good with the hardest run of games. Thanks for your analysis, excellent article and fantastic Reed as well as all the others you’ve dumped during the season.
Great read! I think after yesterday, a lot of people have now changed their opinion on Maresca and are now willing to give him time. There were some rocky patches in the season and people were saying even if he gets us top four and conference league, he’s still gotta go. Players apparently unhappy to play for him due to being out of position was being pushed heavily also. Yet those players all fought for him in a very difficult run and they also showed how much they respect him during the celebrations yesterday. Hopefully we get recruitment right in the summer and push on.

Absolutely spot on. Well written and a complete honest assessment
The Score back to your best I see well done.

Too long but lots of good points. I’d say
- overcame that lots of talent was injured
- brought young players through
- had a clear system but was flexible eg letting Sanchez go long
- most important built character into the collective so when we had to get results down the tough stretch we did.
Amazing read. Stats don’t lie. Can’t agree more. This last two months actually showed what Maresca and our team are made of.
Toughest run and apart from Newcastle trip - the game execution and outcomes are simply fantastic.
By the time I am responding - Delap is a Here We Go. 4 more signings and I genuinely think the trajectory would be amazing.
Bonus - We are carrying this mentality , form and Grit to Club World Cup - Loving that 💙💙💙

Great article as always! You manage to be passionate and balanced in equal measure.
Let’s hope more people are ‘all in on Enzo Maresca’. Looking forward to see what transpires at the Club World Cup and next season!
Thanks for clearing up some of the myths. Up the Chels!

I’m not sure many people said the same about Diego Costa when he was at Chelsea?
