Perhaps this is unfair so early on in his captaincy, but I would expect a captain of any age to show a lot more caution and thought in his decisions in picking up those two silly yellow cards. That was, in my view, a completely avoidable red card.
The large cynic in me does thing that a part of the reason Reece was given the armband was to ward off the interest of clubs like Real and City, but that isn't to say he doesn't deserve the role.
I just really want to see two things from Reece: fitness/regular availability and a calm presence.
That's all we need from him. You could see he got riled up by Jason Tindall chirping him on the sidelines and I wonder if he didn't get a bit hot-headed.
Anyway, we move on to more positive things. Big game on the weekend against Brighton which we must win!
True mate, but Reece shouldn't have put himself in the position to get sent off, was a bit of a schoolboy error and marrs the decision of the first yellow.
Exactly. Dating back to the start of last season he's appeared in 22 of 51 PL matches; 1 of 4 EFL Cup matches; 0 of 1 FA Cup matches and 8 of 10 UCL matches. That's 31 appearances out of a possible 66. Maybe the thinking is that there's no CL this year or next so he'll get the % up?
Silva isn’t vocal enough in English and is likely to be leaving in the summer anyway so we would just be in the same situation in summer ‘24 with regards to picking someone new. Better for Reece to learn from him whilst Thiago is here! For what it’s worth silva most likely acts like a captain behind the scenes anyway, armband/club captaincy or not
Is that a fact that Thiago isn't vocal enough in English, given how long he's been in country? It doesn't seem certain that he'll be leaving in the summer, either.
Apart from the experience part I would argue Reece is all of those things. I agree Reece is unreliable from an injury perspective but that will change at some point. I would suggest Thiago is unreliable (occasionally) from a performance perspective and as much as I LOVE him he is not the type of player he was 2 years ago as excellent as he still is.
Once he leaves then who would you choose?
Again, you are entitled to your opinion, I am just voicing mine as always!
I'd also add that Thiago has captaincy experience. Whilst he's obviously not the same player as 2 years ago, out of ALL of our defenders, he is the ever present in the starting line up.
Reece only played 16 Premier League last season; he then got injured in the opening game of this season. Coupled with this being a young squad, I think he would have personally benefitted from playing under Thiago. JT, after all, learned under the leadership of Desailly.
Then, if Thiago leaves this summer (which doesn't seem a foregone conclusion) then Reece would be a natural heir.

His first booking was a ridiculous decision. Don't understand why no one is making anything out of that myself!

How can Reece be the right man for the captaincy (and Chilwell for the VC) when we can't depend on his availability?

And that's the main basis of my point, Brian; You can't captain a team from the treatment room
My opinion mate, you are also entitled to yours! Who would you choose?
Continues to be a baffling decision to give Reece the captaincy. He can't lead the team from the treatment table
Thiago

Fair enough mate, what are the reasons for Thiago being your choice?
Most experienced player in the squad; one of the first names on the team sheet; respected by the entire squad; never injured (touch wood)

Thanks for sharing with me mate
