Have watched some extended highlights & really pleased with what I saw. People will say “it’s only Wrexham”, but you have to play what’s in front of you & it really helps with bonding & momentum. Yes, room for improvement/development, but that’s where Pochettino & Co come in.
Also loved that Gallagher played deeper when he came on and not as a 6 like Tuchel tried to use him, I know he frustrated us a lot last season but I don’t think he was used rightly by tuchel or potter.
Well that for a change was a great watch, finally the right players are getting chances. Thank you Poch!
Casadei was the stand out for me, even before this pre season game and I know it's Wrexham but he was always someone I wanted to keep. His physicality is something we need at a minimum and he has so much more to his game, just gliding past players.
Whilst it’s very much early days, there was a fresheners about our play and some of the young guns definitely show they’ve got talent to go on to become players for our future. However, as I’ve said elsewhere, Patience is the word.
Thanks for the summary Will.. How was Bashir humphreys? Really liked him in the FA cup game last season.. I hope he gets a look and stays with the team!
Unless we are signing midfield some of these will have to stick around, nice to see academy boys on the pitch getting minutes and looked at, so much more positive than last seasons dross. Its one small step towards Liverpool.
Agree with the sentiment in the recap, Will, as well as with the commenters. Hard to not be excited about what Mauricio is doing with these lads. Thought Bashir Humphreys in particular stood out and gave me confidence in us not particularly needing to bring in a CB to cover for the Fofana injury. Up the chels!
Great start and many thanks Will for the out of hours report! I did watch a bit of Reading when Casadei was on loan there and he certainly impressed me 👍👍
I enjoyed the pre-season outing (I usually don't even bother to watch them). I was encouraged by what Jackson offered upfront and think he looks a shrewd buy. Wonder if keeping Maatsen as a utility option down the left hand side for the season wouldn't be a good idea.
Casadei and Santos looked good as a pairing. I'd be surprised if one of them didn't stick around for the season given how short we are in midfield.
Overall, an encouraging start to pre-season. Keen to see the likes of Colwill, Reece, Noni, Mudryk and Broja come back.
Shaping up for there to be a positive feel around the club which is welcome given how badly last season went.
Cesare was absolutely brilliant. I think there were some nerves at first but he dominated the midfield. I know it's just Wrexham, but if his performances are anywhere near that good in the other matches I wonder if there is any chance he stays with the first team this season

Early days, but a positive start.
Excellent report thank you

Really impressed by Casadei and Humpreys. Cucurella though, I really hope another team comes in for him

He was terrific too. As was Chalobah. Bashir and Casadei played the full 90 too which was impressive
Nice one Will

Ah Pre season I miss High Wycombe though :-)
Thank you Will!! Impossible for me to watch the game, I feel well informed now 👌

Nice report, Will. Very succinct and well worded.
