Chelsea 2 Wrexham 2, Maresca's first presser reactions, Reece James in midfield excites me, Sources: Striker updates & opinions - should we loan one in? How should transfer window end? More...
The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Thursday 25th July 2024!
Morning all,
Over night saw Chelsea play their first pre-season friendly of the new campaign against Wrexham over in the US.
Chelsea needed a late equaliser from Lesley Ugochukwu of all people to stop Enzo Maresca enduring a defeat in his first game. Christopher Nkunku’s powerful finish put Chelsea 1-0 up after 34 minutes. As below, I will watch back soon and give my views, but Dylan did his live watch-along and he has also put out his reactions on paper too, which you can find here!
Myself and Jai will be speaking much more on this game and what we noticed, the Trevoh Chalobah treatment, and all the latest transfer happenings on the Podcast later today!
I will be watching the game back this morning now I have woken up, as there was no way I was staying up to watch this with a 5 month old baby in the house 😂 Sleep is life! I’ll put my full thoughts out once I’ve watched it back.
As mentioned, we did have the main man Dylan doing a watch-along for this game though, so do make sure you check that out here if you weren’t able to watch it live!
Grab all your latest Chelsea news from across the last 24 hours in the same place in here. This covers all the transfer news and much more!
Of course though, we had plenty of content out before the game.
I’ve reacted to Enzo Maresca’s press conference and how he carried himself in here. It was short and sweet, but that’s how I prefer it. No nonsense, just straight up answers.
I also wrote something about my excitement of seeing Reece James become an inverted full back and play in midfield more often, something I have been advocating for for years now. Read that one in full here.
The next one was a half opinion and half sourced article on new strikers. I’ve put some free agent names in this here, as well as ponder the thought of it perhaps being smarter to loan in a new striker rather than sign another new young striker who is raw and unproven, which could end up blocking Nicolas Jackson or Marc Guiu. We need to get this right. My preference is an established striker who improves what we have already, but if for whatever reason that is impossible, then just loan in a low risk striker.
And of course, we have Luke up last today. He has been asking you what you think Chelsea need to do before the end of the transfer window, and you can check that out in full in here.
See you all on the live blog from 8.30am today, where I will put up more reactions from the game and also the full post-match comments from Enzo Maresca!
Peace, Si.
It’s pre-season and also Wrexhams pre-season. I had very little confidence in the squad they took to the US but time will tell. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if we manage to play well and get any results on this tour. If it goes badly against Madrid and City confidence will disappear very quickly.
