Goalkeeper is a hard position to get right as well though. Onana was THE player to sign last year and was then awful at United, they don't always work out even at the top end.
Thanks as always, The Score for your clear and well written articles. Not that it’s particularly relevant but I believe this is the fourth window in the plan. I’m also of the opinion that sometimes plans need adapting and if a fifth and sixth window is required then so be it.
The goalkeeping issue is one of the confuses many of us and is probably the one position where the sporting directors need to rely on other parties.
We also need to look at the circumstances when certain players were purchased. Acknowledging there was no long-term plan in place due to the ownership change. We came to our situation when we had two goalkeepers that were both surplus to requirements, Mendy & Kepa.
I’m not saying that all the purchases in this position have been good but there are other aspects that need to be considered.
As to whether or not another new goalkeeper will end up being the one we want certainly willing to give this approach a chance as I don’t want us to spend another £70 million on some of us not fit for purpose. What is important? Is that any goalkeeper now purchased is ticked off as having the potential to play Enzo requirement and style.
Thank you again for your insight, he is hoping they sell the right goalkeeper and not Petrovic
I am getting fed up with hearing the word potential. Only Palmer and Gusto have been a real consistent success. The goalkeeping position surely shows the incompetence in the squad building.
I do agree about the lack of real striker options. I have a feeling and I hope I am wrong but its going to be another long and difficult season.
SDs surely deserve blame but they are clearly executing the vision of Clearlake. They are under no review, no risk of losing their jobs for a reason.
“We think there’s a path to controlling labour costs and still producing a winning product using data…..
…There’s a talent arbitrage opportunity that exists.”
Yes, they mention the importance of winning but their vision for how to get there is through data and finding opportunity. Why would they rather buy 4 keepers for 71mill rather than 1 elite for the same price? They can resell 3 of them, carry one at a controlled price and keep buying/selling until they hit the quality at the price point they want. I would almost guarantee you ask Clearlake their greatest regrets so far and it would be first summer window + Enzo, Mudryk, Caicedo and not leaning into this “vision” sooner and harder.
Chad interesting insight and whose yo say your not right because at this point few of us have any idea. There is a however whilst thanking you I do feel personally that they haven’t paid one jot of attention to what got us to 6th in the premiership against the odds last season and that the preferred method is to rip out the guts of the team by selling the successes and start over again whilst still demanding champions league football.
So whilst I’m considering your thoughts perhaps I’d ask you to consider this. With stability comes success.

To be fair how many elite proven strikers were available in the last two years?
Dear Score many people ask who would you most like to sit down next to in a Dinner party to?
Have just changed my selection lol.
Good observations and spot on all the way through.
