Who will leave Chelsea this January?
A look at the players who appear to be on their way out this winter
January is approaching us fast now and we all know what that means - the return of the transfer window.
I don’t expect Chelsea to be too busy in terms of arrivals, but I do expect a few players to be leaving the club in January.
Frank Lampard’s squad is large, and he does have a few not ‘unhappy’ players as such, but certainly a few who are already seeking moves away due to a lack of playing time.
Let’s take you through them..
Olivier Giroud
You can’t avoid the news surrounding this speculation at the moment, and Giroud looks the most likely to leave when the window opens up.
Of course Lampard would rather keep him, and they may or may not go in for a replacement, but Giroud will ask to go this winter to get more game time, and Chelsea are unlikely to stop him.
Fikayo Tomori
The current 5th choice centre back as things stand whether you agree with it or not. Tomori has fallen down the pecking order once again and he will seek first team football elsewhere this January and go on loan.
Marcos Alonso
Lampard will not sell both of his backup left backs, and currently it is Emerson Palmieri who is higher up the pecking order than Alonso, so it will be the Spaniard who will is more likely to leave on loan this next window.
Kepa Arrizabalaga
I am hearing from pretty good sources that Kepa will head out on loan this January again, simply because he needs first team football with the Euros coming up this summer.
Chelsea have Willy Caballero and Petr Cech as cover for Edouard Mendy, so this is a deal quite likely to happen.
Danny Drinkwater
Currently plying his trade with the under-23s, surely Drinkwater WILL go on loan this January, even if it is just to the Championship. Playing U23s is not helping his cause.
Baba Rahman
Same as above, Rahman needs to go and play regular football for a senior team.
Who will leave Chelsea this January?
I want Giroud to stay so that our young strikers get learn from his wealth of experience
We don't need to sell out Giroud without having his replacement
