Who are Chelsea's centre back targets for the summer?
Our sources have given us some names, here's a look at those and potentially some more..
As widely reported by a number of top sources now, Chelsea will be in the hunt for one or two new centre backs this summer.
The criteria for said centre back seems to be a commanding young player but with decent experience still.
We have been told about a few players on Chelsea’s shortlist for the summer, and some extra ones we believe the club could look at here…
Mohamed Simakan (Strasbourg) -
The 20-year old perhaps doesn’t fit the entire criteria, but that of course is always just a base.
The French under-20 international is being pursued by a number of clubs including Chelsea, who have actually held talks and made a verbal offer for him this month, sources tell us.
The offer was soon rejected by Strasbourg though, and the 6ft 2in tall centre back became injured so this could be revisited in the summer.
Alessio Romagnoli (AC Milan) -
A player whom Chelsea have scouted for many years now, and perhaps fits the criteria a lot more.
We’ve been told he has recently been offered to Chelsea and Manchester United via a third party, but any move right now is unlikely.
Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig) -
Perhaps one of the most heavily linked centre back right now is Upamecano, and we’ve had confirmation that he is featuring high on the Chelsea shortlist.
However, I am not so sure that he is the type of centre back that Chelsea are truly looking for.
Jose Gimenez (Atletico Madrid) -
More of a publicly well-known Chelsea target and another that fits the bill.
He has a release clause of 100 million euros, and Chelsea were quoted 115 million euros when enquiring recently. Won’t happen unless the price drops.
Anel Ahmedhodžić (Malmo FF) -
The 21-year old Bosnian international is a monster at 6ft 4in tall, and he has good experience for his age.
Perhaps one of the more unknown players who Chelsea are currently scouting, but he’s a potential option.
David Alaba (Bayern Munich) -
Of course, he does look close to agreeing a deal to join Real Madrid, but it is not over yet and Chelsea have held their talks and have an offer on the table.
Caglar Soyuncu (Leicester City) -
Nothing recent on this in terms of Chelsea movement, but he is a player they have previously looked at and considered a pursuit for, so certainly worth keeping an eye on.
Kim Min-jae (Beijing Guoan) -
Some whispers of a pursuit of Min-jae is interesting, he is referred to as ‘the monster’ locally and it’s no surprise when he stands at 6ft 3in and is a physical beast.
Chelsea have him on the shortlist and one we could hear more about.
Of course there could be more targets, and more popping up as we head towards the summer, but these are certainly a few names to keep a close eye on for now.
