We hate (loved for a short time) Tottenham
The bizarre day that every Chelsea fan was supporting Tottenham
As I switched the TV channel to go from watching my beloved Chelsea FC to watching Tottenham instead, in my head I started to write my apology letter and plan which flowers I’d be buying.
I genuinely felt like I was cheating on my girlfriend, and I could do nothing to stop it.
Chelsea went 2-0 down against Aston Villa in the second half of the final Premier League match of the season, and all of a sudden I felt much more hopeful that Tottenham would do something against Leicester City to earn us that vital top four spot than rely on us to score at least twice.
If Chelsea didn’t get top four this season, you could have kissed goodbye to targets such as Romelu Lukaku, Declan Rice, Erling Haaland, and Raphael Varane. Not only would we not be able to finance any big deals at all without the Champions League money and the further money it brings by advancing in the competition, these targets would not be so keen to join a team playing in the Europa League.
So we all knew how important it was to finish in the top four, and seeing as Chelsea were awful and not doing the business, we all loved Tottenham, even if it was just for a short time.
Spurs as we know, did the job, and for the first and last time (hopefully) ever, I was celebrating two Tottenham goals.
I had no faith that Chelsea would pull it back, even when they did manage to score one, I still had no belief that we would score again to even salvage a point that would have meant we did it ourselves.
Our poor attack and lack of imagination as an attacking unit on the whole, literally gives me no belief that we can score in those situations. We lack the mentality when we go 2-0 down like that to bring it back, to fight back. Our inconsistency is so clear to see.
Tuesday night, we literally fought with every ounce of our effort to beat Leicester City, then literally five days later we fold over like a schoolboy football team to lose to 11th placed Aston Villa - It’s a Chelsea thing right?
Well it’s time that it ISN’T a Chelsea thing, it’s time we became world beaters again, and to do that we need to invest in a solid, experienced, and elite spine of this team in the summer, and thanks to Tottenham, we can still do that.
So for now, thank you Spurs! Lap this up, as it won’t last!
