Throwback Matches: Manchester City 1 v 3 Chelsea - 2016/17
Today I am throwing it back to December 2016.
Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents,
The article I had pre-arranged for today has taken me a bit longer than I had hoped to research and fact check so that will be with you next week now, but I wanted to keep to my promise of a bit of content for you today and I thought a bit of a Throwback was in order.
Obviously there are a lot of connections between ourselves and Man City these days with the likes of Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, Enzo Maresca, Raheem Sterling & Mateo Kovacic, as well as many more, and we are ALSO playing them in our first PL match of the season, so today I am throwing it back to my favourite game v Man City.
At the time this was Chelsea's eighth successive Premier League win cemented our place at the top of the table. Chelsea rallied from a goal down to beat Manchester City 3-1.
Chelsea fell behind on the stroke of half-time when Gary Cahill acrobatically deflected Jesus Navas’s cross over Thibaut Courtois.
A little later Kevin De Bruyne missed a HUGE chance to double City's lead.
Diego Costa then scored his 11th goal with a turn and shot after a SENSATIONAL pass from Cesc Fabregas on the hour to put Chelsea level and 10 minutes later Willian put Chelsea in the lead.
Eden Hazard’s breakaway goal at the end decided matters before Sergio Aguero after a horror challenge on David Luiz and Fernandinho provoked by some Nathaniel Chalobah shithousery were sent off.
Chelsea were tested by periods of City domination, but showed a real desire and ruthlessness to match their resilience and tore Pep Guardiola's side to shreds in the closing 20 minutes.
This game is well worth a reminder, watch the highlights here;
Hope you all enjoy casting your memory back to this one.
Thanks for reading!
