Throwback Matches: Chelsea 6 - 0 Arsenal - Saturday 22nd March 2014
This is a new series where I will be throwing it back to some old Chelsea classic matches......
Good Evening Ladies and Gents,
A new series that I am bring to the site for you today, taking a look back at some ‘old’ Classics, some will be older and some will be newer (perhaps not the last 2 years or so)
I am starting with our famous 6-0 victory over Arsenal on Wenger’s 1000th game. This game resonates with me personally for a few reasons, it was 2 days after my 17th (almost 10 years ago!) birthday and the day of my first ever driving lesson, I watched the first half with my best friend who is an Arsenal fan but I had to leave at HT to take my driving lesson, when I was absolutely buzzing, leaving at 4-0 up I was pretty confident but returning to 6-0 was insane!!
So lets throw it back to the game itself, during this period I used to love facing Arsenal especially when either Drogba or Mourinho were around, there was a sense of inevitability about the result before the match.
A pretty stereotypical Mourinho XI, set up strong and solid through the middle with game winners and game changers involved. Against a fairly decent looking Arsenal XI.
Samuel Eto’o, Andre Schurrle, Eden Hazard, Oscar (twice) and Mohamed Salah all got in on the act. Kieran Gibbs was infamously sent off and was mistaken for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the midfielder deliberately handled inside the penalty area.
It was pure ecstasy for all involved from a Chelsea perspective, a truly dominant performance which was helped significantly from lots of Arsenal mistakes along the way.
Please give me some of your suggestions for games for me to review.
