Thiago Silva and his wife reveal exactly how he keeps in top condition
The 36-year old plays like someone ten years his junior
Who would you rate as Chelsea’s best summer signing so far?
I imagine that many answers will differ, but I can also imagine that many of you will be screaming Thiago Silva at me right now - and I’d be inclined to agree.
He was accompanied by the youthful additions of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, and Ben Chilwell - but Silva is playing like a 26-year old right now, ten years junior to his actual age.
Frank Lampard has spoken about managing his condition throughout the season, and there is no doubt that Silva will not be able to play every single match for Chelsea, but regardless of that, he will feel that he will be ready and waiting whenever the boss calls on him, and this is largely down to his new and improved lifestyle changes.
Silva revealed recently that he has hired some personal trainers since he joined Chelsea, and they have made some positive changes.
He said:
“I have a personal team that has been with me for two years, more or less, and has managed to change my eating routine a little.
"I ate a lot of bullsh*t, especially post-game, sometimes even before, and we know that in high-level football you need to take care of all sides. The preparation, prevention, training, I was normal. What was not was the food part.”
We all enjoy the odd treat now and then, but Silva knew that he needed to change some of his eating habits at this late stage of his career, and he knew that to carry on playing for a top club like Chelsea, he needed to be at the absolute top of his physical pyramid all the time.
His wife, Isabella, has been speaking to Goal about how they both eat natural food, and how Thiago has stepped up his exercising at home as well as at the training centre with the club.
She said:
"He puts a lot of emphasis on diet and exercise.
"He is very professional. Whenever he wants to achieve a goal, I do what I can; I try to eat natural like him, we don't drink soda.
"We do the exercises together at home; he helps me too. It's nothing extraordinary; it's just simple things, he exercises a lot with the club. He only does light exercise when he is at home."
In today's world with advanced Sports science, players can go on playing to a top level for much longer, and your diet can make all the difference. Silva has got things perfectly aligned here, and we Chelsea fans can reap the rewards.
