Sources: Updates on Victor Osimhen, Ivan Toney, and Viktor Gyokeres
The latest on Chelsea's new striker plans
The January transfer window is just days away and Chelsea had another frustrating night in front of goal and in attack at least, last night.
Of course, the headlines are that Chelsea are through to the semi final and there was some big and deserved celebrations off the back of that. I was and still am, buzzing!
But it’s also a fact that we were a Kieran Trippier mistake or a penalty miss away from even more frustration and anger today. Chelsea were great, we dominated and deserved to win the game. But once again, our attack was poor and far from good enough, and we missed many simple chances.
If I was Behdad Eghbali last night watching on, I’d have been on the phone to Lee Dykes at Brentford asking him how much he wants for Ivan Toney next month.
But I digress, let’s get to the actual sourced article….
Dykes has basically put Toney on the transfer market next month with his latest comments, and it is clear that he wants a bidding war. Will he get it though? More on that below.
“I am so excited for Ivan to come back because I see him out there in training and he is some player; it looks like he’s never been away,” Dykes told the club website.
“There’s a real ambition from him and I can see in his eyes that he’s going to be better than he’s ever been; I really believe that will be the case.
“Yes, there will be lots of interest in Ivan in January. Naturally, there should be. He was the third-highest Premier League goalscorer last season - one of them [Harry Kane] has gone to Germany now, so he’s up there as one of the best strikers in the division. He is in the top five in the world, in my opinion.
“So there should be interest, and maybe the time comes very shortly that Ivan moves on to another club. But they will have to pay a decent transfer fee to acquire his services because he is some talent.”
I mean, talk about advertising your own player!
And ‘ a decent fee’ is certainly not ‘bank of England money’ or ‘not for sale at any price’ like we’ve often heard about other recent targets.
So what is the latest with Toney?
