Chelsea still pondering three new midfielders - a DM, box-to-box, and an AM
Chelsea’s midfield rebuild is in full flow right now with Mateo Kovacic’s departure to Manchester City set to be confirmed anytime now.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s move to AC Milan is also potentially back on, and Manchester United are still pushing to sign Mason Mount and there are many sources who believe this deal still happens. Chelsea are also open to selling Conor Gallagher but have valued him at at least £40million. And Kai Havertz is fully expected to join Arsenal this week.
With N’Golo Kante also having left as a free agent now, and if all the above players are sold, that leaves us with Enzo Fernandez as the solo midfielder left at the club!
Obviously that isn’t strictly true, because we also have the likes of Lews Hall, Andrey Santos, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Cesare Casadei. But there are also some big decisions to be made on these four as well, with loan moves likely for the majority of them. Although none of them can be fully ruled out right now as staying in our squad this summer and they will be looked at by Mauricio Pochettino.
A midfield rebuild was always on the cards for Chelsea, as I had been reporting here for months now, and it is very much needed. Pochettino had also emphasised this need early in his talks with Chelsea.
