Centre back situation: New deal being considered for Christensen, Rudiger revival?
Plus the Chelsea futures of Tomori and Guehi
There really has been quite some turnaround for some Chelsea players over the last couple of months, and this had led to potential changes of directions.
As you will have seen over the weekend, the reliable Matt Law of The Telegraph has reported that Andreas Christensen will be entering talks with Chelsea over signing a new contract extension.
There has also been rumours circulating today that Antonio Rudiger will have talks over a new deal. Both defenders have current deals until 2022.
The Athletic’s Simon Johnson has claimed that neither Christensen or Rudiger have started talks over a new deal yet, and neither camp has been given any indication of Chelsea’s intention to do so.
We have been told via one source, RJPJournalism, that the club ARE potentially considering offering a new two-year deal for Rudiger, and a new four-year deal for Christensen.
As well as this, RJP believes that discussions are underway for a new one-year deal for Thiago Silva, and it looks likely that it will be a Premier League loan for Marc Guehi next season.
As we also reported earlier, it looks like Kurt Zouma will be the one to be sold by the club, and Fikayo Tomori will be signed by AC Milan with their option to buy.
This will then see Chelsea sticking to their plan of signing one new centre back themselves.
On the centre back chase, we printed this a few weeks back on potential targets.
Ibrahima Konate is also high on Chelsea’s list of targets.
It’s really quite incredible how a new manager and the space of a couple of months has totally changed the fortunes of some of the players at the club, and potentially the decisions of the board.
Switching formations has made a difference, with some defenders being more suited to that, rather than a four at the back.
But Tuchel has a few players he appears to trust more than Lampard ever did.
Always understood AC was a good footballer, my main concern was his physicality & ability to stay fit. Looking much stronger which improves his confidence & allows him to “play”. 3 man defence suits him, like to see him a flat back 4 before anointing him but definitely an incredible comeback. Long may it continue. Jury’s out on Rudi for me. Was Sarr just an investment, is he ready for PL or is he a long term bet?
