Resurgent Chelsea claim 3-1 victory at Leicester - CNA

Once again these ‘midfield' update’ articles have become a daily occurrence this transfer window, as frustrating as that is.

The midfield is our most pressing position, as it has been since last summer really when we started to see many of the existing options down tools and look way ahead to moves away. We haven’t had a true defensive midfielder since Nemanja Matic really, and it’s left a gaping hole that we have all seen the negatives of on a weekly basis.

The new owners started to address this in January by getting the incredible signing of Enzo Fernandez done, and then they followed that up by getting rid of a number of our current midfielders that we all knew had to go this summer. They have even then moved on from that to try and sign Moises Caicedo, who would finally add the defensive stability needed in our midfield, as well as a lot more. But that’s where the frustrations begin, because even as I type this, this saga is still ongoing and has been all summer. It’s been a up and down ride with this deal and let’s be honest, we all wanted to see this done a long time ago in an ideal world, but still it goes on. I think the majority of us understand the complexities and inconsistencies that goes into these deals and negotiations, and also how tough Brighton are making this. We can all see that. But I’m sure even Chelsea are getting very frustrated with this one now as we approach the Premier League opener next weekend, a week today in fact.

For some reason I still have the opinion that we will get this done, but nobody can forecast the ending of this now and we just have to hope that the fact we have stayed in this negotiation for so long, that we will get this over the line.
