Something away from the Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham frenzy this weekend - let’s have a transfer update.

We were all hearing reports in the summer about how Pochettino was keen to sign English players and how important that was to him. It’s obviously not a rule that he only wants English players, but he does get appealed by what that brings.

On Friday, Pochettino was asked about whether it is good to have an English core in the squad and he replied:

"Yes, because we are in England. Football is global but it's important to have English players and important to keep the identity. I love players from everywhere. But we need to respect the culture."

I am sure this gave another reason for some of his ‘secret’ haters to come at him again, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

Pochettino’s desire to bring home based players in is what saw Cole Palmer arrive, and what saw Chelsea look at players like Emile Smith Rowe in the summer. And our current English core aren’t too bad at all, are they?

I also love our South American core in midfield mind, that’s not bad either is it?

Pochettino has an emphasis for Premier League proven players, and that is why I am still being told it is Ivan Toney who is the priority striker target for 2024, and the club still believe they can get him in January.
