Chelsea did make a move to sign Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk this summer as has now been widely reported.
However, the Dutch international only had it in his mind to extend his contract at Liverpool as his first priority and would have only entertained other offers if that was not on the table. But Chelsea did approach him.
The Blues are looking to add a more experienced player or two to the ranks and they have been alerted by another potential free agent opportunity.
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is leaving the club in the summer when his contract runs out, and he is now free to speak to other clubs ahead of joining them as a free agent this summer.
