Sources: Chelsea seriously pondered new striker last week, will re-visit in January

Interestingly this week more is coming out about Chelsea trying to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window, particularly in the latter stages.
As I reported at the time, the club were looking to bring TWO new attackers in at the end of the window but only managed to get Cole Palmer and no new striker.
This was not for want or trying, they did try. As we saw, Chelsea looked at trying to sign former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, and The Athletic have also reported Chelsea spoke to Nottingham Forest regarding their striker Taiwo Awoniyi in the last 48 hours of the window. I’d heard whispers on this but didn’t check it out as I didn’t think anything of it at the time.
But this tells me, as well as what I was hearing and reporting, that Chelsea absolutely wanted a new striker in this summer but could not get a deal done or the right opportunity did not come up.
