Sources: Chelsea select No.1 midfield target for the summer
Name in the article, as well as our other midfield targets
Chelsea have selected their main No.1 midfield target for the summer transfer window as they weigh up options.
In this article as well, we also look at a number of other centre midfield targets we are looking into as the prospect of losing Enzo Fernandez begins to turn into reality.
It is far from set in stone that Fernandez will leave Chelsea this summer, but there is a feeling amongst those in the industry that he will attempt to push a move away when the season is up. Again though, that does not guarantee that he does go, because a club will have to pay Chelsea’s asking price which will be north of £100m. So there is nothing to say that he will definitely be leaving.
Even still, Chelsea are in the market for at least one new midfielder regardless of Fernandez.
As we have reported on this site, the club are closing in on a deal to sign Valentin Barco from Strasbourg this summer. Although the plans for him are unclear at this moment. Chelsea are looking to sign him to fend off other interest from major clubs, but there is a chance he stays at Strasbourg for another season before officially joining Chelsea.
The above will depend on other situations as well as Fernandez, such as Andrey Santos, who wants to be an important starter so could also look at his future this summer, and Dario Essugo, who is also thinking about regular game time and could go out on loan.
