Sources: Chelsea in talks to sign Wayne Hennessey
The free agent is being looked at to replace Willy Caballero
Veteran goalkeeper Willy Caballero left Chelsea this month when his contract ran out, leaving the club in need of a replacement third choice stopper.
Caballero has been hugely reliable over time and bought great experience and influence to the training ground and the changing rooms.
Chelsea are looking to replace him with a goalkeeper with such experience and influence.
I am told that Chelsea are currently in talks to sign former Crystal Palace goalkeeper, Wayne Hennessey.
The 34-year old has been capped over 100 times for Wales at senior international level, and he comes with a lot of Premier League experience.
I’m not sure how far along this has advanced, but Chelsea are certainly interested and have talked to the players representatives about the potential move.
Hennessey is a current free agent having left Crystal Palace last month.
Chelsea see him as a Caballero replacement, who was third choice at the club, so if Kepa Arrizabalaga does end up leaving as well, then I am led to believe that they would still likely look to replace him as well whether they sign Hennessey or not.
Hennessey is also home grown, so he wouldn’t take up any overseas players places in the squad with the strict limit on these.
It would mirror the movements of the club when they signed Rob Green in a similar capacity recently.

Only Chris Gunter has been capped 100 times for Wales men's team. Wayne Hennessey is on 96 caps and his saves against Hungary (final qualifier for Euros 2020) should be watched to see how well he can do when given support from fans.
