Roman Abramovich Potentially Selling Chelsea: Further Info
I've spoken to sources and gathered more information on this major story
Sorry guys I know you’ve just had the Newsletter drop through but as what always seems to be the way recently, some major news dropped at a terrible time for me!
I was literally getting ready to set off for Bristol Rovers to scout when all this came out, so I wasn’t able to get anything solid over to you in time for the Newsletter, but since then I’ve spoken with some good sources and have some more information based on what I’m told on it all.
Firstly, I will say that this is a fast-changing situation and I will do my best to bring the latest updates as soon as I can. I also want to state that I believe Chelsea will be just fine, as a bottom line, whatever happens. We’ve been a club since 1905, we existed before Roman Abramovich and enjoyed some good success, and we will exist after Roman Abramovich, IF it comes to that.
I guess for me, supporting Chelsea since the late 80s, I remember when we were in the old second division, so losing a Billionaire owner perhaps doesn’t fear me as much as some, purely because I remember those days as being some of the best ever for me supporting this club, it just felt different, not necessarily in a good or a bad way, but yeah, just different. But I totally get the fear, things could change a lot to how we have known them in the last 20-years, that is something that we do need to think about and accept. Transfer plans/operations could change drastically, contracts, players attractions to play for us, and all of our business operations could be effected. But the key word there is ‘could’. The bottom line is that any new owner/s that come in IF Roman sells would be Billionaires in a very strong position. They quite simply have to be, because the first thing they would need to do is pay back £1.5bn+ that will be owed to Roman Abramovich from his own investments into the club.
As I explained in an article today, Chelsea are already a self-sustained club, so if new owners came in that wouldn’t change, they would sell to buy I believe. So in that sense, things won’t change. Chelsea will also be in wealthy hands still regardless.
One thing that is probably fairly certain is that Marina Granovskaia could well go with Roman, IF he goes. She has been his assistant for most of her working life and you’d imagine that she will go to pastures new. However, that will be a decision for her and the new owners of the club, so they may well decide to try and keep her there, we don’t know.
Nobody knows how a new owner will operate, so anything said on that right now is purely speculation. Will we get another guy who is as passionate about Chelsea and puts the club first like Roman has done throughout his tenure? Nobody knows. But Chelsea, I believe will be just fine.
