N'Golo Kante says squad morale is high and they share a collective desire to win
The midfielder has been a pivotal part of this season's success so far
When you think about it, Chelsea have added six new players to their squad this summer who will all be considered as regular starters.
Edouard Mendy, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, and Timo Werner - that makes up for just over half of the starting eleven.
What a difference to last season, and the performances on the pitch have mirrored this as well. Chelsea are currently on a 16-match unbeaten run in all competitions and they are producing the best form that they have had under Frank Lampard easily, and for many years arguably.
Lampard has his main shape setup, and you can see a real style of play coming through as all his new signings really start to click.
N’Golo Kante has been pivotal in the great form and momentum they are picking up right now, playing as the anchor to Lampard’s setup in the holding role.
He is having one of his best season’s ever, and Chelsea are reaping the rewards of his fine form.
But how do you keep such a big squad happy, and is it even possible?
Well, as things stand yes you can, according to Kante himself. The 28-year old says that the mood is high in camp right now and the squad as a whole have a desire to do well for the club.
“For sure we have a beautiful squad, Kante says.
“Everyone is involved. As players we know what is required to be part of the starting 11 and on the bench, because many players have shown that even with less time they play very well. It’s for the manager to decide but as soon as we are on the pitch, we try to give the best for the club.
”We had some new players coming in this season and so far they are doing very well. They feel good and we feel good with them. Now they are part of the team we don’t see them as new players because everyone is in a good mood and has the desire to do well for the club.
“This season there are a lot of teams at the top of the table with not many points difference, he adds.
“It means this season is open for everyone so it’s good for us to keep up in this part of the table.
”We are in a good position but this season is still young.”
Kante is far from a natural goal scorer, and you certainly would put that down as one of his jobs this season.
“This season I didn’t have many chances to score, Kante says.
“But as long as the team keeps scoring and keeps winning and taking points, it’s okay for me not to score.
”It’s a good sign for us that the goals can come from many different players. But the most important is the result and we are happy to do well. If the goals come from one player or another it’s not the most important.”
