IMAGES: More players join training at Cobham on Monday as Chelsea press on with pre-season
The new season is fast approaching...
In less than four weeks, Chelsea will be playing their first ‘pre-season’ match of the new campaign, in the UEFA Super Cup final against Villarreal.
With the players who featured in the Euros now expected to enjoy a couple of weeks holiday, that will not give them much more than a week or so of preparation for the match.
Thomas Tuchel could chose to call upon some of the fringe players, returning loanees, or youth players who will be joining him at Cobham this week.
Last week we saw players starting to filter back in for sessions, as well as Thomas Tuchel and his staff.
Callum Hudson-Odoi, Faustino Anjorin, and Tammy Abraham were the first three back in, but they are expected to be joined by many more this week after Chelsea have been filtering them in for covid testing before allowing them to take part in training.
The likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher, and Trevoh Chalobah have joined in on Monday and the group has got a lot larger!
Gallagher and Loftus-Cheek will be trying hard to prove to Tuchel that they are good enough to be given a spot in the squad, with Billy Gilmour’s place having come up for grabs as things stand.
Chelsea will play a few in-house games between the squad when more players come back in, and Tuchel will start to get a feel with where he is at with some of the players trying to prove a point.
As well as the above mentioned, others who reported back to training on Monday are…
Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Jake Clarke-Salter, Matt Miazga, Marc Guehi, Malang Sarr, Davide Zappacosta, Dujon Sterling, Ian Maatsen, Baba Rahman, Marcos Alonso, Trevoh Chalobah, Danny Drinkwater, Lewis Baker, Tino Anjorin, Christian Pulisic, Charly Musonda, Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Armando Broja, Tammy Abraham, and Ike Ugbo.
None of the youth players are joining in due to the U23s and U18s off in Scotland taking part in some friendlies right now.
