Mateo Kovacic talks up team mates Kai Havertz and Mason Mount
"He is such an elegant player. He just needs to learn to play in the Premier League, that’s all."
At the time of writing, Chelsea are off the back of another defeat in the Premier League against Arsenal - their third in four matches, and Kai Havertz has sat out the last few games after a stunt in form.
It has been quite visible that the German international is still settling in to a new country, a new league, and amongst new team mates. Some players instantly take to it, others do not. Unfortunately for Havertz, he is taking some time.
But there is no doubt in the mind of his fellow Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, that Havertz will make it at Chelsea and will become one of the best in the world.
“I like a lot Kai Havertz,” said Kovacic told the Chelsea website on Monday.
“He is such a talented player. He is a great signing for Chelsea. He will be a huge player for Chelsea and for world football, I’m sure of that.
“He has huge potential. He is such an elegant player. He just needs to learn to play in the Premier League, that’s all. It’s a difficult league with a huge tempo, and he will get used to it. Game by game he is getting better so I have no fear for Kai.”
Kovacic plays and trains with Havertz on a daily basis and his choice of words here should tell you all you need to know about the player that Havertz will become. We just need to afford him some more patience.
The Croatian international was also full of praise for another Chelsea midfielder, Mason Mount.
“Mason has a great desire to work, his attitude is great and he is very talented,” said Kovacic.
“It’s a normal thing he is doing so good because I saw last year his talent.
“We like to talk. They can give me tips as well. They are both better goalscorers than me so I can look to them. It’s not about the age. Every player has his attributes. We talk and we can learn off each other.”
One thing that Kovacic has always needed to show improvements in is his shooting, but he brings so many other great attributes to the side and it sounds like they are all learning well from each other.
The 26-year old has admitted that he is still looking to make improvements to his game and is growing by the day.
“For me, I want to become better every game,” he said.
“I can still improve and be better in some parts of games which I’m trying to do. I can improve a lot and I’m sure I will be even better as the season goes on.”
