Good Evening, Ladies and Gents,
Welcome back to the 23/24 season loan army report. This is a summary of what our loan players have been up to over the last week or so since the international break has finished.
Lets get into it……
Gaga Slonina:
Gaga’s side lost 2-0 at the weekend, but Gaga had another excellent game. He made 7 saves, 73% passing accuracy, had 39 touches and made 9 recoveries.
He is certainly being worked hard out in Belgium
Bashir Humphreys:
Another week and another 90 mins in the bank for Bash, in a 2-2 draw at home to Hull.
He made 61/74 passes, had 83 touches, made 5 passes into the final third, 100% tackle success, 7 defensive actions and won 75% of his duels.
A solid performance again.
Zak Sturge:
Zak’s Peterborough continued to play during the international break, he completed 42 minutes v Salford (A), 90 minutes v Colchester (A), both in cup games. He was then an unused sub at the weekend in their league game v Peterborough.
Andrey Santos:
Another week where Forest are wasting ours and Santos’ time! Not selected in the squad.
Cesare Casadei:
Cesare came off the bench for the final 25 minutes in Leicester’s 2-0 win v Watford.
Tino Anjorin:
Tino is still out with an injury and should be back in around a month
Omari Hutchinson:
Omari had a slight injury and missed the game v West Brom this weekend, as with all of the EFL loanees, there is a full midweek fixture list this week.
Harvey Vale:
Harvey has continued to impress for Bristol Rovers over the last couple of weeks, completing 76/90 minutes v Newport and then the full 90 away v Derby last weekend.
He is still continuing to play full back and on the wing.
Charlie Webster:
Charlie played for England U20 during the international break and came on for 22 minutes v Germany (A) which was enough time for him to score the winning goal!
He was an unused sub for Heerenveen at the weekend.
Diego Moreira:
Diego finally got back on the pitch for Lyon this weekend, coming off the bench in the final 11 minutes of their loss to Lille.
Mason Burstow:
Mason was an unused sub at the weekend
David Datro Fofana:
Datro played 75 minutes at home to Augsburg at the weekend where his side picked up a 1-1 draw.
He didn’t have his best game, he only managed 1 shot, BUT he completed 11/14 passes, created 1 chance, had 29 touches and missed 1 big chance.
Angelo Gabriel:
Angelo played 55 minutes for Strasbourg v Marseille at the weekend, they drew 1-1.
He completed 9/15 passes, created 1 chance, had 27 touches, completed 100% of his dribbles and won 5/9 ground duels.
Dion Rankine:
Thankfully Dion is back and playing football.
Over the last week he has played 77/180 minutes which is a good start to his return from injury, however Exeter aren’t doing great currently.
Thanks for reading.
Luke Rushbrook
Thanks Luke. Overall it seems to me the loans are not going great. To be blunt I would be surprised if any of these loans play any regular football for Chelsea - and in many cases will never play for Chelsea.
Which brings me to my question! A lot of these guys cost a few bob - e.g. Santos, Casedai, Angelo, Fofana - presumably with the intention that they would turn a profit. But these are players who cost £10,15 or even £20 million. I think we will be lucky to get this money back - it's not as if we paid £3 or 4 million for these players. So, is the owners' strategy of churning youngsters to fund the first team squad working? Once Gallagher, Maatsen and Chalobah have been sold, the cupboard looks a bit bare!
