The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Wednesday 19th July 2023!
Morning all,
We are a day closer to Chelsea being back in action on the pitch once again. The lads have began training in the USA this week ahead of our first pre-season game against Wrexham in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Yesterday I pondered a potential starting Xl for the game. And now I have seen the final squad and who is available, I have put together another article on that here detailing who I think could be the second string Xl that comes on at half time.
Off the back of the squad being revealed there has been some negativity being said and written about what it looks like and the quality, or more importantly, the lack of a midfield. Chelsea only have one less goalkeeper than they do midfielders in the squad, which is obviously a little concerning, and quite hilarious. However, at this stage it is far from panic stations, and I explain why here as I assess the whole squad so far and the plans going forward.
A couple of sourced stories now following up on the main talking points over the last day or so.
Conor Gallagher has reportedly held positive talks regarding joining West Ham this summer, and that has also created a bit of a shocked reaction from Blues fans. But really, it is not a surprise, and I explain that and the plans in midfield here.
We might also have to dip into the centre back market as well, and that is due to a serious injury to Wesley Fofana. We had the exclusive on this story last week, and I can update on that and report more sourced news on it here. I’ll have more on this today because most of this article was written before the ACL news came out.
Finally, head to the live blog from yesterday to roundup on all your Chelsea news, transfer rumours, any big quotes and extra sourced news from me in here.
Today’s live blog will be up and running from around 8am as always, don’t forget to join me there for updated Chelsea news across a number of sources, as well as extra sourced stuff from us! Our blogs are so lively these days, there’s about 150 odd comments daily!!
