Kai Havertz building confidence and momentum that will spark fear in rivals
The 21-year old has carried on his domestic form on the international break
Kai Havertz is just 21-years of age, that fact is quite easy to forget for some.
He is a player who has a feel of being around for a long time, due to how fast he has developed as a player at such a young age, already becoming a household name.
Now this has been good and bad for him, especially off the back of his first big-money major transfer move in his career and the expectations that came with it.
Having been at Bayer Leverkusen as a youth player, he had already played 150 matches in their senior team when he joined Chelsea in the summer, scoring an impressive 46 goals, all before he was 21.
He had become a regular for Germany and in double figures for appearances, and the transfer to Chelsea had a feel them already getting a ‘ready made’ player. Which in all honesty he was/is.
But his struggles related to the current situation with the pandemic, the fact he got and suffered with the after effects of Covid-19, moving to a new country at a young age by himself and without family and friends, and adapting to a new faster and more physical league.
All of that is what played a major part in the German international struggling to make an impact in his early stages as a Chelsea player.
However, things are on the rise for Havertz, and it looks like he actually went away on international break at the perfect time.
He played a few matches for Chelsea in his preferred more advanced positions before the break and he was really starting to show his full potential, putting in some good performances.
He has carried that on for Germany in his last two matches, scoring a goal in his first match, and getting an assist to help them beat Romania 1-0 on Sunday night.
This is exactly what he needed, to get back to familiar surroundings and continuing to build that confidence and momentum to take back to Chelsea with him at the end of the break.
He even sounds full of confidence once again and acknowledges his rough start as a Chelsea player, in an interview after the game on Sunday.
“It’s been a tough season,” admitted Havetrz.
“I know that things haven’t been going smoothly.
“But I think that’s normal when you first go abroad. It takes half a year or longer to adjust.
“I think that things are going well right now so I don’t want to overthink those negative impressions from the past.
“I am positive and hope that the next weeks will be every bit as good.”
Rivals be warned, and be VERY afraid! We know EXACTLY what this guy is capable of and he will become an indispensable player for us, I have no doubt.
