Quite the U-turn has occurred in recent weeks regarding Jorginho and his future at Chelsea Football Club.
Many blues fans grew very frustrated with Jorginho’s agent’s regular noise in the press in the past few months, citing his client’s desire to return to his native Italy in the near future. Jorginho has been regularly linked with his old club Napoli, in turn alongside a potential reunion alongside former manager Maurizio Sarri.
In the last few weeks quite the U-turn has occurred, with rumours now circulating Jorginho could be in line for a new deal with the West London Club.
Whilst it’s hard to argue with the transfer phenom and a friend of ours in Fabrizio Romano, I’ve had some interesting news on this saga myself.
I have been told assertively that any talk of Jorginho signing a new deal is “premature” and that talks have not begun with regards to a new deal for the Italian midfielder. My source believes this may be leaked info from Jorginho’s side to “balance the media” and shift focus away from the recent comments made by Jorginho’s agent, plus settle the ship as Jorginho and Chelsea head into the crucial stages of the season.
The same source also told me that if Jorginho was to sign an extension with Chelsea, it would be with an emphasis and security on the business side of things and protecting all parties financially.
With that said, in the past 24-48 hours, Jorginho did an interview himself and spoke rather transparently about this subject itself, as seen below:
The media training is paying off indeed with Mr Jorginho I'd say. With that said, he makes a good point in saying now isn’t the time to be talking about contracts. It’s business only at this stage of the season, with the summer providing a perfect time to reflect and negotiate player futures, Jorginho’s included.
For what it’s worth, I don’t believe Jorginho signing or not signing a contract extension should be anywhere near the top of our priority list right now. As many know, I like the player and rate his ability/worth within the squad; however, I do believe, and always have, his future at Chelsea is temporary rather than permanent. In saying that, as long as he wears Chelsea blue, we must support what is a committed and talented playmaker in Jorginho.
