Joe Cole on sign Chelsea's entire recruitment model is broken, Players need to let feet do the talking and not their hands, Enzo Fernandez standing up as a leader, How many miles off? Boehly speaks..
The Chelsea FC Newsletter: Friday 28th February 2025!
Morning all,
It’s Friday again and we have no Chelsea to ruin our weekends this week! Our next game comes next week against Copenhagen on Thursday. And after that, it is Leicester in the league.
I guess this is what Enzo Maresca meant when he said going out of The FA Cup means we can concentrate on the Conference League and the PL, because it’s FA Cup weekend this weekend and we all have it off!
To the content now…
Plenty to talk about and ponder as always. Why not start with yesterday’s live blog where you can find all of your latest Chelsea news from across the last 24 hours in the same place here. I had to sign out before Todd Boehly spoke at The Financial Times Football Business Summit last night, but you can check every word he said here if you missed it. I’ll react to this on Sunday.
I had to put another solo Pod out last night and got completely duped by a fake Joe Cole account! All I can do is laugh! But of course, I spoke a lot about Luis Campos to Chelsea, The Saints game - Fernandez the leader, playing out from the back, the hand yapping celebrations, and MUCH more in this here.
Time for me to speak on those hand yapping celebrations from some Chelsea players. I don’t like it at all, in a nutshell. When you start creating a them vs us with your own fans, it’s never smart and never ends well. There are better ways to answer your critics and once again, I am urging the players to just let their feet do the talking and be humble. Big one here.
Joe Cole [the real one] has been speaking facts again on the recruitment model being broken. And he hones in on the goalkeeper department to prove it. He’s bang on in here, and also recommends a 33-year-old goalkeeper that Chelsea should be targeting. But we all know they wont because he’s far too old! Words from Joe, and me in this one.
Ending on two positive notes now. I want to give a shout out to Enzo Fernandez who in amongst adversity, is really standing up not just as a player but as a leader in a group that is desperate for them. Fernandez is now 24 and is finally starting to mature to a level where he can stand up and be counted, and also motivate and encourage those around him. These are the kind of characters we need more of in this team. Words on that here.
Luke Rushbrook, who always tries to be as positive as he can be, or at least very balanced, has put out an article that has carried on from my ‘we have never been a million miles away’ article from earlier this week. You can check it out in full here. Highly recommend taking part in this article with the polls and guessing the mystery players [no cheating].
Right, have a great weekend! I’ll jump on the Substack App chat section if needed. But until then, I’ll see you all back on the site on Sunday!
Peace, Si.
Thanks, Si and team for the hard work you put on the blog every day. Much appreciated. This community needs to grow every day.
