January transfer window outgoings - An update
The latest on Tomori, Gilmour, Alonso, Giroud, Rudiger, Caballero, Jorginho, and more..
At the time of writing, the transfer window reopens for Premier League sides in just four days time.
Here I can provide an update on some potential departures at Stamford Bridge.
Fikayo Tomori
The Athletic have reported that the Chelsea defender wants to leave the club next month on a permanent deal.
He’s become fed up with his situation under Frank Lampard and wants more than a loan move out of the club.
Chelsea still rate him and see his future with them, so they are only ever likely to sanction a loan move in January, nothing more. They also want him to stay in the Premier League if possible so they can keep a close eye on his progress. Interest from a few English and French clubs.
Chances of leaving in Jan - 9/10.
Antonio Rudiger
Another one growing more frustrated by the day, and there is still every chance he could ask to go in January.
Chelsea of course will not let two centre backs leave, but they will be listening to all offers (that includes for Andreas Christensen) over the next two windows, so if a significant money offer does come in for either of these, Tomori may be forced to stay at the club. Various interest from AC Milan amongst others.
Chances of leaving in Jan - 3/10.
Willy Caballero
At this stage of his career, the veteran keeper just wants to play, and it looks like he will be off in January, as per The Athletic.
They believe he will go to the MLS.
This would of course mean that Kepa Arrizabalaga will have to stay at Chelsea until the summer at least, which will have complications for his desire to play for Spain during this summers Euros.
Chances of leaving in Jan - 7/10.
Marcos Alonso
He’s dropped way down the pecking order and rarely even gets on the bench anymore. He will head back to Spain or Italy in January that I am fairly certain of.
Chances of leaving in Jan - 9/10.
Billy Gilmour
The Athletic are adamant he will stay now in January, despite considerations to let him go out on loan to get more first team football.
But they believe Lampard sees him as both a holding midfielder and a number 8 and wants him in the squad.
Chances of leaving in Jan - 1/10.
Olivier Giroud
Him staying or leaving has and always will be dependent on his game time recently and moving through to next month.
I can’t see Chelsea satisfying his need for game time and I can still see him asking to leave. Whether the club sanction it or not with or without a replacement is another thing, but I don’t think he will get enough game time to want to stay.
Chances of leaving in Jan - 5/10.
Jorginho
Similar to Rudiger, a departure in January is not impossible because if Chelsea got the right money offer they will let him go, especially with Billy Gilmour in there now to cover.
But whether that offer will come in due to the financial situation off the back of the pandemic is another thing. Chelsea will not sell on the cheap, which could means he stays until the summer at least.
Chances of leaving in Jan - 4/10.
Kepa Arrizabalaga
We touched upon this just now, but with Caballero likely to be sanctioned a move, there is no way Chelsea can allow Kepa to go as well.
Chances of leaving in Jan - 2/10.
Emerson Palmieri
I think he has to stay, purely because Alonso will go and Lampard will need him as a backup. So he will have to wait until the summer.
Chances of leaving in Jan - 2/10.
