Ah, this saga again…
This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s, Jadon Sancho, nor will it be the last I am sure.
Simon has recently shared how BILD have reported that Chelsea are very much “back in the picture” to sign Sancho this summer, as we know Chelsea have funds available and are looking to potentially spend big again. However, there’s more to it than that…
I checked in on this with two of my top sources, ones who have covered this saga previously and are aware of the situation at an educated level. I have been confidentially told by one of those sources that Chelsea still holds interest in Jadon Sancho, however, they haven’t got as far as discussing whether a deal can be done. The reason for this is the uncertainty of the futures of a couple of current players within the squad, Callum Hudson Odoi and Hakim Ziyech’s names were mentioned.
What we do know is senior figures at Chelsea have rated Sancho for a few years now and would love to see a deal down for the English starlet, confirmed. With Dortmund reportedly dropping their asking price given a “gentleman’s agreement” was made with the respective parties, this is why this saga has reappeared. With that said, this would require a lot of pieces to fall into place. This isn’t a simple deal, as players would need to leave + a good chunk of change would be required to pry the player from Dortmund’s claws, amongst board/coach target changes and more.
With that said, Chelsea are still looking to prioritise a marquee centre forward signing. However, that is becoming a tougher task by the week, per the recent news on Haaland and Lukaku, (Harry Kane isn’t happening people) that deals for those two are growing tougher to make happen due to financial demands and the current climate with their current clubs being comfortable.
Remember I mentioned above I checked in with two sources on this? Well, the other source did say whilst we are aware central figures within Chelsea are big fans of the player, some are not willing to prioritise his signing over others and find a deal unlikely to go ahead. They believe this is just your typical merry go around with a saga like this (cue Hulk, etc.) and that Chelsea aren’t the forerunners in this particular saga.
Personally, I side with the latter (much to Simon’s disgruntlement) as I’m Mr Negative apparently. However, as I’ve also maintained, I bring the actual news, not always the good news. I do not see us signing Jadon Sancho in the summer as of right now unless things drastically change within our club in term of who our top targets are, where our priorities lay and if any entertaining offers came in for our attacking players of which we would be willing to let go. Personally, I believe it’s a stretch.
In conclusion, stranger things have happened at Chelsea Football Club. We know Sancho has fans within the club, plus Sancho would certainly welcome a move to the Bridge. However, a deal as of now seems unlikely, if anything changes just know I will be right on it.
