Good evening Ladies and Gents,
As always Chelsea social media timelines go into full meltdown after a loss!
I have seen “this squad cost a billion pounds and can’t win that game” & “how do the club not realise Chalobah is better than Disasi and co at the back” & “we take one step forward and 3 back”.
It is just pure reactionary nonsense to me…..
Firstly everybody knows Chalobah is better than Disasi, Tosin and Badiashile let’s be fair….. but that’s not the reason Chalobah is being sold, in fact if it was on ability he would still be in the squad, but it’s a financial decision and the pure profit finds that can help massively to balance our books are being prioritised, unfortunately it means selling a good player who’s from cobham but it allows us to balance our books. Granted, if you don’t buy the likes of Disasi in the first place you have less on the books but the state of play is what it is…..
Next, we were heavily rotated and fairly lop sided in my opinion, Disasi as a RB/RCB makes us really narrow and gives Noni no support. Veiga was inverting is fine and he’s good at it but also it means Badiashile is in wide areas, he’s just not comfortable there. Tosin s a good pick up on a free transfer but he is just an average centre back who can be 4th/5th choice with no real issue. If he has to jump up the pecking order then we have issues.
Losing a game like this where we look like we didn’t want to over stretch or commit too heavily on such a woeful pitch was coming from quite early on in my view, the players looked scared of the pitch and injuries more specifically, not an excuse as they didn’t perform and tried to coast through the tie and that will not work in this competition, just an obvious observation from me.
We’re through, we’re in Europe and by far the favourite for this competition which I would like to hope we will take very seriously this season!
At the end of the day if we manage to go all the way we will be the first club ever to win all 3 major European competitions…….
Long way to go before that (literally)!
Thanks for reading, let me know your thoughts.
Luke Rushbrook
Put simply I agree Luke.
We did what we had to do learning curve for team and manager, we knew that we had defensive issues last year and only Thiago Silva steadied the ship as the problem is we have 3 cb’s all of whom would be a 5th in line cb at another club.
If we were clever we’d rush in today and do a swop with palace for Gueli for whatever it takes preferably as an exchange we know how those work money changes hands both ways and swallow our pride and admit we are wrong with Chalobah.
At a stroke we give ourselves a 2nd/3rd and 4th CB option and have Badashiele & the ex- Fulham lad as 5th & 6th
I’m glad we’re through but yesterday’s performance further cements my opinion that despite all this talk of having to make pure profit player sales, we continue to waste money on players like Dewsbury Hall. He is light years away from being good enough to be starting in a Chelsea shirt. Badiashile and Disasi are likewise useless and wasted money too. It’s absolutely painful to watch and I have nothing but sympathy for the fans who paid a chunk of change to fly there and watch that.
