Frank Lampard rightfully defends odd Kai Havertz criticism
Some fans are already writing off the German international in the early stages of his Blues career
I’m not about to tell you how to support your football club, there is too much of that online right now, and it’s a decision that you’re entitled to make after spending hard earned money on following your club.
However in my opinion, if you are already claiming that Kai Havertz is over rated, and you are already writing off his Chelsea career, then I’m afraid you are nothing short of foolish.
He’s 21-years old, has just arrived in a foreign country, playing in a foreign league. That alone is enough to want to give him every chance to settle in, surely?
But that’s just scratching at the surface. Anyone who watched Havertz play for Leverkusen or Germany over the last few seasons would have seen with their very own eyes the quality he has. I have no doubt that he will be a world-class player very soon.
I agree, Havertz was very poor against Everton on Saturday, and I myself am a believer that as a fan you have a right to call things as you see it. If a player plays bad, I will say it. But there is no way I would base my opinion on whether a player is good or not after just ten matches played in a new league.
Frank Lampard has been forced to publicly defend Havertz after clearly witnessing some of the over-criticism online after Saturday’s game, and I am pleased he has came out and addressed it. But the fact remains, he shouldn’t have to.
I genuinely don’t even think Havertz has played poorly until Saturday. He is yet to light it up that’s for sure, but there has been many positive signs, usually when he is playing in his more natural central positions.
Lampard said:
“We should be patient with Havertz from a Chelsea end because he is a top-quality talent who has come into this league.
“He can play in any position across the front three and he has played on the right countless times before he played for Chelsea.
“But we have to be patient, particularly with any young player playing in the speed of the Premier League.
“People who want to jump on to criticise (should) just wait and give a young player time. I know the player that Kai Havertz is going to be.”
He just have to work extra hard to reach his level best
