Frank Lampard fires back at social media critics
The Chelsea boss says the critics do not matter when it comes to Mason Mount
Another day, another press conference, and another talk that Frank Lampard has to do defending arguably Chelsea’s best player so far this season - Mason Mount.
The 22-year old has often been on the receiving end of weird criticism from a section of Chelsea’s social media fan base, and more often than not reporters want to touch upon it during press conferences due to the drama it brings.
It doesn’t affect Mount, you can see that from his performances on the pitch and the desire he has to win matches for Chelsea, the club he has supported since before he could walk.
But once again Lampard has been forced to jump in and defend his midfielder in the latest pre-match Leicester City press conference on Monday afternoon.
"The critics are wrong. The critics don't matter when it comes to Mason,” Lampard fired back when asked yet again about the online critique that Mount gets.
“He's just turned 22, imagine what he is like at 25, 27.”
Lampard often puts it down the fact that Mount is not a player who is out there doing the fancy stuff and trying flicks and tricks, this is why he is subject to such criticisms from some.
But as he alludes to here, it is the small things that Mount does - the dirty work as such that is so important to any team.
“He does so much work off the ball,” Lampard continued.
“He does all the basics, moves the ball quickly scores goals, finds assists, he does all those things. One thing he has got is a great attitude. A great way of seeming like he is never concerned about the outside. The critics are wrong.”
It does have a feel of something that will never go away, even when Mount is playing so well. But Lampard is bang on here, the critics do not matter when it comes to Mount!
