EXCL: Sam Jewell's role at Chelsea and what exactly he will be doing and bringing
Brighton's Head of Recruitment will join Chelsea in a new role in November
It was confirmed yesterday by Brighton that their Head of Recruitment Sam Jewell will be leaving the club.
Top sources have since reported that Jewell will then join Chelsea in November after a period of gardening leave from Brighton.
Jewell’s role going to Chelsea has been labelled as a ‘senior multi-club role’ but what exactly does that mean and what exactly will he be doing and bringing at Chelsea, and is his hire a good one?
I explain all of that below. But first, let’s learn a bit about him.
Jewell is 10 years younger than Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi — but the pair have good relations.
“He’s a top guy, my friend,” the 44-year-old De Zerbi said of Jewell late last year. “He worked very well in the last transfer market (the summer 2023 window). He’s very young, but he has a big talent, big passion. He knows all players in the world… like me!”
Brighton’s business during that summer window included the coup of capturing Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona, the latest in a list of eye-catching signings involving Jewell. He previously had a big hand in landing midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo, who were sold on for huge profits.
Jewell is also known for being onboard with Brighton sourcing a couple more experienced players coming into their mix recently such as James Milner, which have also proved to be smart moves.
