In light of Everton’s 10-point deduction for Profit and Sustainability breaches, there has been a fair amount of scaremongering relating to both Chelsea and Manchester City.
In essence, there is an assumption any punishment will be significantly more severe should either club be found guilty. This might be true, but I think we first need to remember two key points. Firstly, Chelsea haven’t been charged with anything by the Premier League yet. Secondly, Everton can appeal, so their punishment shouldn’t be seen as set in stone and thus a guide just yet for any future ones.

Earlier this year, Chelsea’s owners self-reported incomplete financial information to the Premier League, the FA and UEFA relating to financial transactions between 2012-2019. These all took place under Roman Abramovich. One of the challenges of buying the club from him, and at super speed, was that due diligence (which usually takes months) wasn’t easy.
