As strongly reported by The Athletic last week, Chelsea have an interest in signing centre back Niklas Sule from Bayern Munich this summer.
I wrote about him in my last newsletter, but as we always like to do here at S&DTC, we will check in on our information when we hear particular rumours to get it validated.
I think it is safe to say that Blues fans, whether you want him or you don’t want him, and there are many more not wanting him, you might have to get used to the fact he is a real possibility.
I’ve been told that Chelsea have started talks with Bayern and Sule’s representatives regarding a potential deal this summer.
Bayern will sell, and a fee has been spoken about that both parties are happy with. Sule’s wages and demands would also not be a problem and the German international would be keen to come to Stamford Bridge and work under Tuchel - the pair already have a good relationship.
Thomas Tuchel has spoken to the board about Sule and he is a player that the manager and the board like. His price would be attractive, thought to be around £30 million, and there is a collective opinion that he would be a good option.
However, as always, he is not the only centre back being looked at as an option and it is far from a done deal. The foundations have been laid out, but it is dependent on Tuchel’s plans, and our current centre backs plans, and also the situation of other defenders such as Raphael Varane, Jose Gimenez, and Milan Skirniar, who are all on Chelsea’s defender shortlist.
Expect to hear more on these names in the coming weeks.
