Chelsea will reject any offers to sell or loan Callum Hudson-Odoi in January
The Blues winger remains integral to Frank Lampard's plans
As another transfer window approaches, brace yourselves for the usual Callum Hudson-Odoi rumours.
Just like the London tube trains, we expect the news like clockwork, probably stating something like ‘Bayern Munich approach Chelsea over Callum Hudson-Odoi’, I can see it now.
The 20-year is wanted by Bayern, that fact cannot be ignored. But Chelsea have no intention of selling one of their best young players, especially not in January.
This is according to the reliable publication, The Athletic. Their writer Simon Johnson said on Monday that "Chelsea will ignore any offers to loan or buy Callum Hudson-Odoi when the transfer window opens next month.”
Having said that though, please do still accept the fact that these offers will still probably come in, and the speculation will still be rife once again.
But the bottom line is that Lampard and Chelsea need Hudson-Odoi this season, he is only one of two natural wingers within the first team squad and you’d expect him to become even more integral as the season goes on with fatigue kicking in.
He hasn’t played as much as he wants to be playing so far this season, and I personally have expressed my disappointment over this especially in recent matches - I feel he has done enough to be picked in the squad at least on merit.
But Lampard has a massive squad full of stars now, and it will become difficult for Hudson-Odoi to be in every single match day squad. However, if he keeps performing the way he is, then he most certainly should be in on merit.
It will be pinnacle this season for Hudson-Odoi’s Chelsea future, I believe he could end up looking to move away in the summer if he only remains as a backup player, a lot will depend on his minutes going forward.
